well its kinda simple really, something occured to me while being stalked by pirates today....
why is it in the game of EVE,the loser loses everything but the winner gains everything?
just by the virtue that ur ship lasted slightly longer than ur opponent that he has to bear the cost of pvp(which is often great) while u get away without a mere scratch(except the occasional repair bill which is a drop compared to losing ur entire ship and fittings)?
when u look at games like Starcraft,Command and conquer,Earth 2025,Civilisation,Ogame and even boardgames like RIsk,u noticed that whenever u engage the enemy for profit or gain or simply to be a douchebag, theres is always a price to pay, regardless of who emerges the victor.IN WAR EVERYBODY HAS CASUALTIES.
There should be a threshhold in eve whereby ur ships starts incurring extensive structural damage once the enemy has dealt a critical amount of damage to u.
And the cost of this damage should be subtantial to make the pirates BLEED from their aholes.
CCP IF U MAKE THIS HAPPEN I SWEAR I WILL BE HAPPY TO ENGAGE IN PVP ALL DAY LONG EVEN IF I KNOW I WOULD LOSE 100% OF THE TIME JUST THE FACT THAT I MADE THE BASTARD HURT IN SOME WAY.

Ummm.....u can negate that cost simply by having a couple of armour or hull reppers.the damage has to be permanent and SUBSTANTIAL.
And gimme a break, repair costs are a joke.

This already is the case, but the problem is your mindset is focused on 1v1 battles, whereas fleet battle can have varying levels of success depending on enemy losses and your own losses. It is the same with games like risk, they all use large armies rather than focusing on a solo soldier. |

You did make the bastard hurt. After all, he probably has to use some paste to repair the heat damage to his weapons. And there's the price of faction/T2 ammo to consider. It's not cheap.
Or how about, you know, you learn how to defend yourself or at least how to not be a victim. |

Sorry OP but your reasoning is way off.
Of course there is only one victor if you have a DUEL. You mention other games where where victor is sometimes at a loss too, after the armies battle it out.
That is true, but guess what..same thing happens in EVE. When FLEET fights occur it's not rare that "winning" side actually suffered more losses than they caused.
So yeah..totally off. |

not really, even if i lose everything in the process but caused significant harm to the opposite party would i call it a total loss?No ill call it isk well spent.
the only reason i suggested this is u guys complain about hi sec carebears being unwilling to engage in pvp for varying reasons.often because they are on the losing end competing against the better and stronger eve players.
this game mechanic might bring about significant change in solo and small gang pvp.

I used to play Hellgate: London on Hardcore Elite mode. It meant that when you die you lose your character and the mobs were the hardest, with some of the monsters being 90% invisible and killing you in a single hit. It was an extreme mode to play in and every time I joined a party it was like having 10,000 Volts flowing through my chair. You worked for months to get a character up to level 50 and only to see it die in a party where one player had to do a Leeroy Jenkins. It was as dumb and stupid as it was hilarious and exciting.
In EVE it is more like the opposite. The more one has the more afraid one becomes to lose it.
So if this gets shifted further to more possessions and away from losses then I fear that it is going to choke some of the fun. |

So you lost and because of that, want the other side to lose something too? You sir, are in the wrong game.
Also, PvP is not a synonym for combat and nothing here needs to be solved.

With about 2-3 weeks of training you can fly a mostly t2 fit t1 frigate with nearly the same skill (SP) than a veteran pvp player- the rest is up to combat practice and personal experience. Why should CCP change the rules if you are not even willing to invest that much to get at least some combat skills? You want to make the pirate that attacks you suffer? How about you just shoot him down? Please don't feed me. |

america may have "won" the war in iraq, pillaged their country and killed osama bin laden but they lost $1.3 trillion taxpayers' dollars in the process.I find that to be a little comforting to know a bunch of terrorist losers with ak47s could accomplish so much.

"CCP, make my repairs cost more, I will PvP all day long!" That part sounds legit.
Other than that, nice to see you mentioning those strategy games and using words "war" and "casualties", then suddenly applying all that to 1v1 scenario. Get into alliance logistics and fleet fights or something, I dunno...

You made me shoot coffee out of my nose... The Imagry!... Arrrrgh...
Seriously. PvP does not need fixing, its a work of art in Eve. What needs fixing is people's approach and I could write a book about all the things people do wrong both philosophically as they approach the game and physically as they play it with a sequal that covers all the ways I got owned learning about them.
If there is any issue with PvP, its that so many people choose not to participate resulting in considerably less action than one might hope for if you love it.
The reality of Eve is that, if you don't love it like it is today, you should probobly go ahead and unsub.-á |

Why would you find it comforting to know that terrorists with AK47s caused the US to lose a trillion dollars of US tax payers money? Are you an islamic militant or something? |
