Hi there
I'm running EVE on my HP ProBook 6550b and experiencing an issue when jumping through gates. Nearly (but not every time) when I jump, the display flashes (blank screen) and I get a system message, that the driver was rebooted to recover the graphics system.
Running an up-to-date Windows 7 with system drivers for the Intel HD Graphics.
Help is much apprechiated.

the reason for this is that the intel graphics systems, specially those in laptops aren't made for gaming. the HD series is used for some photo editing and watching a video. but it doesnt have the power to run a game such as eve. if i even remember correctly the intel graphics cards arent even able to run a simple game like minecraft. or any other relativly simple low end game |

Your graphics card is easily able to run eve, I have a legacy first generation intel HD card in my Acer Aspire 5820T and I used to be able to run 4 clients on windows 7 no problem, providing you have your settings on low and run it in windowed mode. Running in full screen mode causes problems with Intel.
However, I recently upgraded to windows 8, and I have the same problem now with the graphics driver crashing when I jump through gates, and undock.
The issue is with the drivers in my case, and it sounds like you have the same problem. First of all check if you have the newest drivers installed, first look for laptop specific drivers from HP, and if there is no update, check the actual Intel site for drivers and see if that helps.
I seem to think I had modified Intel drivers on windows 7 for this exact same reason, but I can't remember as it was all running fine for months. If I remember what I had installed I'll update this thread. I know Leshcats newest drivers don't fix the problem on windows 8, and I don't think that's what I had installed previously either. |

Sounds to me that updating drivers can be quite dangerous for laptops. I also had a problem with my ATI graphics card for an Asus laptop after updating it's drivers. What might be the problem with updating the driver with an intel driver is that the laptop is actually running on a driver build for that exact system to optimize co+¦peration between the different components. So what basically happens is that when you update the driver of the graphics card you actually tear the optimization apart.
These are mainly speculations, however it probably isn't co+»ncidence that more than one party have more or less the same problem. What you can try is format the system and keeping the same stock drivers for your hardware. Now install EVE and see if you're still having these problems. This might save you a few bucks in case you were about to buy a new graphics card for your laptop. The problem is that usually you can't installed the default intel driver cause usually your notebook manufactor is needed to update their driver. If their don't support new drivers we're screwed.
I've the same issue with a lenovo x201 notebook.
Here's a thread on the old forum: http://community.eveonline.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&threadID=1529941
It's in the game for nearly 2 years now. Sadly neither Intel nor WIndows, nor CCP helped us in this case :-( |

I have worked through this issue as well and these are the best fixes I have learned from searching the internets.

First, follow that link and get the driver it suggests and install it for your Intel graphics card. The driver should end in 2413. This will fix the black out when jumping gates.
Secondly, whenever/before you start eve, right click on the desktop, goto personalize, and switch your theme from whatever it is in Aero to Windows Classic. This will stop the scenario where your computer heats up like a furnace, changes your screen to psychedelic colors, etc.
I use mostly lower setttings for the graphics, but I'm fine with it, I've found I don't like all the effects and trails on the screen anyway, too distracting.
Do all of these things, just trust me.
Edit: spelling error
