It's pretty easy to get scammed as is; I'm surprised CCP does so little about it really, but this seems like an easy fix.
Simply make it so in trade it doesn't show the set name; that way for those of us that are not all there at 2 am and stupidly rely on pictures during trades....it'd be cool not to buy a Scorpion thinking your getting a Navy Scorp...etc.

So how much did you lose?
If you were dumb enough to accept a trade rather then a contract, and dumber still not to double check the item you were being given in a potentially compromising situation, that's your own fault and noone elses. Enjoy your raven. |

I'll bite.....why are you trading in the first place? Its known to be very bad for reason above and beyond names.
System is fine as is, CCP supports scamming as an alternate career. Contracts will list everything down to the contents of the cargo bay. Click on yes after reading the contract.....that's all you.
Guy wants to trade only...its a sign. Guy wants to trade only even after you offer more money to put it in a contract its a sign slapping you in the face.

This may be one of the most unfriendliest communities I've seen... and I believe the main reason to that is exactly what is being discussed in this topic. This issues/bugs are considered tools for scamming by many, and scamming has virtually no consequences. IMO this is a bug and should be fixed. If you want to scam you should REALLY have to work at it. It shouldn't be the easiest path, or else this ^^^^^^^^ (read above) happens. People is stupid enough to believe that if they behave like idiots and **** in everyone else they'll be rewarded with easy isk. That's not being smart[er], that's acting like a monkey.

This community is not unfriendly, its just intolerant of self-absorbed morons.
Even in this thread you'll find, among the mocking, solid nuggets of wisdom on how to avoid this happening again. Ask for advice on how to avoid scams in the future, and you'll receive a thread full of intricate and detailed instructions of every major scam in the game, how to spot it, how to avoid it and if safe, how to turn it to your advantage.
Ask for game mechanics to be changed to compensate for your inability to see in incoming robbery when its waving its cock in your face, and you'll get mockery and disdain.

Looking for a way to avoid this kind of scams is an ugly workaround, not a real solution... Yeah this is getting a bit offtopic but it's a workaround to save the topic ;)

Oh I'm dealing with it. Haven't been scammed so far, so I guess I'm doing OK. I'm not the OP, please try to stay focused and don't mix us. But that wasn't the point, sorry if I didn't make myself clear enough for you to understand. You see most scammers are idiots, they behave like monkeys which only see the banana in front of them and don't care about anything else, so in order to build a more tolerant/friendly community they need to be educated. And we all need a good community to support the game. BTW that's also the reason why I said I was a bit off-topic ;)

And removing one of the tools of their trade counts as education how exactly?
Also I do not buy your "im not quite on topic" defense. We have a specific topic here. I am talking about that topic. If you are not, then you cannot possibly be addressing my points. |

I'll try to explain it in other words: monkey=kids banana=iskies
They'll follow the shortest and easiest path to the iskies. If this path is scamming then they'll become scammers. Right now we're giving them tools to scam very easily, and absolutely no consequences at all. So in their minds: scamming=good
The easiest path to get isk shouldn't be scamming. I'm not saying that we should ban the scammers, I understand that it's part of the game, but it shouldn't be THAT easy in order to avoid a society where scamming is one of the most profitable bussiness. That's the kind of education I'm talking about. The game mechanics imitate society in so many ways, we even have police, so it's not really free to do anything you want without consequences. The trade box is bugged, it's quite different than the rest of the system and that's why it's being used with so much success.
I'm on topic somehow, just covering a bigger topic which includes this one.

Don't trade in station, peroid. Submit a contract of your own with the correct ship selected, buy off the market, and double check your prices. Sage advice and I know your mind was just blown away but it works. Also, don't look at local trade hub spam. BAM! Can't get scammed if you ignore the source. |

Have you ever considered CCP intentionally leaves room for player error specifically to give scammers a chance? Scamming is a legitimate career in EVE, why would you expect CCP to nerf what's not broken just so lazy players who don't want to double check whether or not they're getting scammed can continue to be lazy and dumb? |

You've clearly never actually tried to scam someone. It takes a lot of failure before you come across a fool who has money to part with.
You know that one trit all my money scam?
For that to work, you have to find someone with 800mil who doesn't know about the trit scams. A rare beast indeed, and every time someone accepts one of those contracts, the pool of people who will fall for it decrements by 1. |

I actually saw that 1 tritanium scam for about 20m many times They adapt, and scamming is very profitable because it's so easy to do it. That's why there're so many scammers. It's a vicious circle.

Ok this is getting boring.... Why are you not shooting every single newbie that comes out of Jita? Because it's not profitable. Concord would get you and most of the times you'll loose money and time. Of course there are suicide gankers but no near as much as scammers, otherwise services like Red/Blue Frog wouldn't exist. People wouldn't take the effort to continuosly create trial accounts and spam the **** out of Jita if scams weren't profitable. Every single day I have to block new accounts from scammers spamming in local and trade channels. Every time I offer a ship for sale I get dozens of trade windows. Scamming is too easy to do and profitable (you get tools and no punishment of any kind), and that's the reason why there are so many scammers.

I just turn the local flash off and don't look.
I'm not going to bother discussing this with you any more.
You know nothing about scamming, and make wild assumptions. You have a whole thread of people telling you you are wrong, and you aren't listening. Fortunately, it doesn't matter, because the devs agree with me. |

I know I wouldn't pay you 800m for 1 tritanium thats for sure But you're right, there's no point to keep discussing this.
