This explor agent has to be by far the most complicated difficult of the 5 training agents. It took seeing an explanation of scanning to do the 1st mission 2nd one easy enuff. Now the 3rd one findind the Gravimetric training site. I just dont get this is it just me or do allot of peeps not get this? I dont find anything saying Gravimetric and i used 3 probes will that do it? Please explain or is doin this evin worth it? I might just finish 4 agents and call it good. Unless theres a step by step walkthrough how to do the gravametric site scan and so on. I heard scanning is complex im realy starting to see that now. Whats the final reward for completing explor? |

You need 4 probes minimum to get a lock on anything. |

Hi,
I just recently finished all missions from the exploration career agent and I must say that I agree with you, they are quite frustrating at times. As far your problem I think 3 probes is not enough (or it might make it hard to find the site). I used 4 probes for the missions and 5 probes for the last 2. How I did it was to set the scan radius to maximum and arrange the probes in a square like pattern as to cover most of the system. After the initial scan if i get some result I lower the scan radius, rearrange the probes and repeat (if you don't see any gravimetric sites then chose at random, if you do the you're in luck). In the list with the sites if you notice sites which type is not what you're looking for you can right-click them and then ignore them, this will keep the least a bit cleaner. You can also find scanning tutorials (video) on youtube which will show you how to arrange the probes.
If anyone notices some mistakes in what I said please correct me, I'm also new to this game
Good luck |

Use 4 probes in a square pattern, and scan each of the sites. It won't say "Gravimetric" until you get it pinned down to 40-50% certainty. All of the sites in a system will be unknown until you get your probes locked in enough that the system will tell you what they are, typically at 50% or so signal strength. Usually when your probes are at 2-4 AU range, focused around the site, but sometimes you have to be closer. |

Allright i think im gettin it. I see it appears tegiouse. What skill is needed for the 5th probe like the video shows astrometric to 3? Looks like im not pursuing an explor career it just dont look like my thing.thx for the replys . So i understand this can be done with 4 however 5 makes it easier as 1 is in the middle. |

Astrometrics to level 2. Level 1 allows 4 probes, level 5 the max of 8.

If you only have 4 probes, the word you're looking for is "tetrahedron".
Think back to junior high when you started doing geometry, and you'll recall that to find something with triangulation (on a flat surface), you need the distance to 3 points, which cannot be along the same line. The same principle applies to quadrangulation in 3d space, though as the name suggests you instead need four reference points and they can't be in the same _plane_.
Arrange your probes in a tetrahedron or some similar non-coplanar arrangement, with the overlap of the scan ranges for all four probes covering the region you want to look at.
(Also, make sure your filter selection on the scanner is set to "none" or the type of site you're scanning for.)
EDIT: the "tedious" part is fixed by holding alt or shift while adjusting your probes, both functions make it go significantly faster. You can figure which is which on your own pretty fast, probably. |

Normally it would be tetrahedron, but this being CCP geometry, you actually get a bigger signal with a flat square. |

You'll have to shrink it much smaller to actually hit 1% if you use a flat square, since your lock is going to initially be doubled (one point above and one below the plane) and later is going to rely on the inherent error in the placement of the probes on warp.
I mean, if you shrink it small enough it'll still work, but it's going to be far from ideal as far as an overall use of your time goes. |

I totally agree with you about them being complicated. When I first started out I had to read wikis and watch all kinds of YouTube videos to finally understand what I needed to do. I would say stick with it because being able to scan is a great tool, just wait till you start playing around in worm holes... I hated that tutorial quest, and i remember saying id never go exploring again after i finally made thru it. But after you understand how it works its surprisingly fun and can be rewarding early game if u hate grinding missions like i did, altho the cutthroat competition in high sec can be depressing.
I dont have sound on this computer so i dunno how good this guide is, but there is alot of good and easy to understand guides on youtube.

Being proficient at scanning is a doorway into a part of EVE that can not be really accessed in any other way.
The heart of solo PVP is highly dependent on the use of combat core scanners. If you go into wormhole space without decent scanning skills you will be at a severe disadvantage.
And lets not forget D-scan. D-scan is your friend and you should understand how to use it.
And as other posters have stated there are instructional videos on youtube. They are really a lot better than what the agents provide. Yes I am an alt. I see no reason to make it easy for bullies and greifers |
