So, I am slowly getting into lvl4s. I have never done them before, but have, by reading here on the forum, seen that things have changed in the last few updates.
A few questions:
Is the guides on EVE-Survival: Mission Reports still good? Can I jump into, say the mission vengeance against blood raiders and be able to take out each pocket on its own? Or will all npc ships now autoagrro as soon as I jump in or start shooting?
How badly will my drones actually get hurt from the mission rats? I will use t2 lights to clear the frigs-up to cruisers, then switch to mediums.
I know that I can "just fly into a mission and test it out", but i rather not lose my, for me, rater expensive ship just yet. I am using amar ships by the way.
Thank you for your help! |

Leaving light drones out there for a long time is what gets them aggro'd and killed, likewise having them a long way away where you can't withdraw them quickly.
If a pocket starts at a suitable range for your turrets to hit frigates effectively I would snipe them before shooting cruisers and then battleships. If the pocket starts all close, you may need to shoot battlecruisers and then battleships for your tanks sake.
Eve survival always seems accurate to me - full stage aggro bugs with missions have been fixed (except for the ones that have always been there).

What are you flying? Beams or pulse? It makes a big difference in tactics. If you are new I'd say use beams for now.
If you can, warp in at distance and as pointed out, start with shooting the frigs and work up to BS. If a frig slips through then set the light drones on them. T2 drones are pretty much mandatory for L4s.
If the mission has you warp right into the rats, use an MJD and then kite them. |

Thank you both for your answers.
I am flying with beams right now. Seems I should hold of getting pulses till I can equip tech2 versions and I am not there yet.
Thank you for pointing out the mjd to me. Before looking through the forum I had not realized that NPC rats can not shut it down! Interesting... my current fit is pretty tight, but I might be able to squeeze a mjd on there somehow. Is it really needed though? Jumping 100 km away seems like a "get-out-of-jail-free" card to me, but not that great if you actually want to kill stuff!
This brings me to a new question of mine: I have read that one should have a combined "gank and tank" of around 1000 dps. This I do have, HOWEVER, only up to around 30 km, after that my dps starts to drop as I have to switch to longer range/lower damage ammo.
Is it enough to do only 350 dps at 60 km? At 30 km I do around 530! Is this good enough? (My tank is around 500 dps).
Thank you for your help! |

I dont know much about amarr ships so Ill not comment on that except that the combined tank/gank seems ok to me, except the 350DPS at 60km part.
What I really wanted to say is, ONLY use drones for frigates in close orbit. If u got spare room for sentries I think thats the way to go. |

I have 990 dps at 30km, falling to about 650 at 80km, so I don't need to MJD as 900+ dps will reduce a missions NPCs before they overwhelm my weak cap booster run tank. I would not have the patience for missioning at 350 dps anymore.
Once you MJD, your tank needs will be lessened and bursty, so you can manage its capacitor requirements with a cap booster, so you should be able then fit at least 1 tracking computer and optimal script it - maybe 2, and 2 will cause a shorter ranged weapon system or ammo to have considerably further reach. You might be able to get your existing 530 out to 60km.
You also might have to be conservative about some missions, ie run in with a tankier MJD setup and see how much damage you take before risking a lighter tank in a future run through the same mission.

Once again thanks fr both answers. The ds I have given is without drones as it seems likely that they will be killed i I send them out to early.
Tauranon: What ship and what setup gets such awesome stats?
I have by squeezing a tracking computer on my ship gotten my range up to 37 km with dps of 538 and 359 at 74 km. This is with a slightly bit of faction stuff on my ship. I guess that will have to do for now.

If you would post something close to your fitting then it would help a bit,
This would tell us how you have decided to tank, is it cap stabe? (you lose a lot of fitting slots ot cap regen and rig choices are important) Is it cap boosted? what are your skills like? high skills? low? you are using a battleship yes/no?
I am guess that Tuaranon has more heatsinks or the equivalent on a much better skilled / more expensive ship then you. Its not possible to please all the people all the time, but it sure as hell is possible to Displease all the people, most of the time.

Yeah near full skills (drone and gunnery) from a med cap boosted dominix. dominix is double dps bonused, so always shines when just talking about gank and not the pitiful tank I bring with it. Cap stable doesn't make sense once it starts costing you a lot of time, as eventually you lose a battleships worth of opportunity costs.
IMO looking over the options, I'd presume a navy armageddon playing hen on 5 sentries could work an omni into its build, and produce a very similar damage envelope/playstyle, and pretty much keep sentries fielded throughout a pocket (enough to feel confident about counting their dps in your figures), and probably can run the repper more often than I can once the owner has amarr battleships V.

The test server was just mirrored recently, so you could always hop over there and test things out. It's a good way to test out different fits without worrying about the expense (most things are sold at 100 isk on the market).
With the increase in shiptoasting, the Report timer needs to be shortened.

My fit is/was (changing around, testing new stuff now):
armageddon T2 defense: I repper, 4 hardeners (em and therm)
two heatsinks. (imperial navy-style)
1 cap regen i low, full cap regen in mid and rigs.
mixed guns (yes I know, but not that bad really for me): 6 mega modulated and 2 dual modulated loaded with multifreq or standard (imperial navy-style)
skills are decent, large pulse and amar battles hip at lvl4, most gunneryskills at lvl 4 or 5 cap skills at 4. (I think I have a few implants to add a slight amount of damage to for my lasers...)
How can I improve this fit?
I decided to get advanced and tried to maximize the dps of the navy geddon and got well above 1000 dps for all lvl5 skills... something to aim for I guess!
Thank you about the sisi comment. Will probably check out things there. |
