Ok I am very new so i have very few skill points thus far so keep that in mind. I'm trying to fit my Vexor but I can't put everything on there because my power grid can't handle so maybe someone has some ideas to either increase the power grid or do what i want to accomplish with a different fit.
High Slots- Medium Hybrid Blasters 1 x4 (i forget the exact type and I'm at work but short range with high damage)
Medium Slot- Cap Recharger 1 x2 10 MN Afterburner 1 x2
Low Slot- Medium Armor Repairer 1 x1 Magnetic Field Stabilizer 1 x2 Drone Damage Amplifier 1 x1 100 MM Reinforced Nanofiber x1
Drones- Hammerhead 1x4
I have no rigs yet (also haven't even trained rigs yet). My goal is to be able to put out a high amount of DPS while armor tanking close range. I use my afterburners to get close and stay close. Or that's my theory but i can't put everything on the ship with my power grid :/.

Why in the name of all things holy would you put 2 afterburners and a 100mm plate on it? |

Increased armor and increased speed? Why in the name of all things holy are you asking pointed rhetorical questions while giving no worthwhile input to someone asking for help? |

100mm plates add effectively zero HP on a cruiser. They're a frigate-size module, and not even a very useful one.
Also, since I assume this is a mission ship (if it's a pvp ship all you're going to do is die uselesslyin a ship you probably can't afford to lose) adding armor HP doesn't help, your goal is to tank all incoming damage permanently with the armor rep and resists. Fit mission-specific armor hardeners instead of the plates.
Quote:and increased speed?
You can only have one AB active at a time. Fitting two of them is just throwing away a slot and a fair amount of grid.
As for the basic question, train Engineering IV ASAP, and V soon. That will give you 5% more grid per level, and is necessary to fit a decent setup on anything. Also, you probably have the largest-tier guns (neutrons) fitted. Obviously this is nice for damage, but it will require a lot more grid than you can get with your limited skills. You'll probably need to downgrade to the lower-tier medium guns (electrons) to free up grid for other things. Especially at low skill levels you have a choice between maximum damage and maximum tank, you don't get to choose both. |

Here's a tip, when asking of help after saying how inexperienced you are, don't disregard advice as if you know better, even if the advice given is a little snarky DUST514 isn't on PC because CCP wants 2 different communities influencing each other, not people tabbing out to give themselves Orbital Strikes. (Also they don't want to cannibalise their existing playerbase) |

I love advice since i am new and inexperienced. I've never disregarded advice. That being said the post your referring to gave no advice. All it said was your build is bad. I know it needs tweaking which is why i posted it. Someone simply saying its bad with no input as to why or how to fix it is a useless post. And again my thread for help gets bogged down by useless condescension. |

Ok, I will go step by step and assume this is a ship for PvE/Missions/Ratting
"High Slots- Medium Hybrid Blasters 1 x4 "
Use Medium Railguns, for low level missions preferably the -Dual 150 mm compressed coil guns I- They do less damage than blasters, but have way better range, so you save time moving into range. Use three kinds of ammo: Antimatter for short range/High Damage, Uranium for Med/med and Iridium for Long/Low Damge. These railguns are also very easy to fit, saving space for other stuff.
"Medium Slot- Cap Recharger 1 x2, 10 MN Afterburner 1 x2"
You could replace one of the 10 MN ABs with a -Monopulse Tracking Mechanism I- thats a Tracking Computer increasing your range and tracking, so the ability to actually hit.
"Low Slot- Medium Armor Repairer 1 x1, Magnetic Field Stabilizer 1 x2, Drone Damage Amplifier 1 x1, 100 MM Reinforced Nanofiber x1"
Remove the 100mm plate, its just a waste of space. The commonly used plates are the 200mm (Light frigate plate together with an armor repper), 400mm (Heavy frigate plate) and the 1600mm plate (Cruiser upwards). As you probably are a bit lacking still in the fitting skills replace the 100mm Plate with an -800mm Reinforced Nanofiber plates-. To make your armor repper more efficient remove a Magnetic field stabilizer for a -'Refuge' Adaptiv Nano Plating-.
"Drones- Hammerhead 1x4"
You should have space left in your Drone bay, so take a flight of Light Drones for attacking frigates with you. If you are Fighting Angel NPCs, you should use Medium Valkyries and Light Warrior Drones, Hammerheads and Hobgoblins for other NPCs.
After you refitted you ship this way, you will probably have some space left for powergrid and CPU. As I do not know your skills, I was very conservative here. Hope that helps.

That helps quite a bit. I know i don't have rigs but i want a good well rounded ship so any ideas for low skill cost rigs to train for and to add to my fit. |

Always try to augment what you're good at instead of trying to mend what it's bad at, so if you fit damage mods fit the drone ones, not for your rails. As others have stated; don't fit plates in PVE, it's a prolonged fight and a little extra HP doesn't help you, instead you want more and more efficient repairing during that time so you'll want resists for the damage types done to you.
If you do missions you can check which faction you'll be fighting (this may differ per mission) and as most factions only do 2 damage types that makes life really easy. Getting used to this takes a bit of time but you need to learn it anyway and it's just better to take 20 seconds before every mission to get your resists on par than it is to have an inefficient setup for what you're doing. For info on which does what check here.
Fitting wise I'll assume you'll be fighting Serpentis (which you'll mostly run into if you do missions in Gallente space). It's just a template so replace with named or T2 where you can. If you have cash to spare you can fit the capacitor rigs but it's not needed, it just makes life a little bit easier nothing more.

This! you can also switch 1 Cap Recharger with Magnetometric ECCM to counter NPC jamming in caldari space OR another module (the name of it I forgot) to increase targeting range so sensor dampening from NPCs in gallente space doesn't affect you much!

The OP has not stated what sort of use this ship is designing for.
also the module you are looking to name is the "sensor booster " (midslot) or " signal amplifier " (lowslot) however neither one of them does all that much to npc dampening. Its not possible to please all the people all the time, but it sure as hell is possible to Displease all the people, most of the time.

True, though the combat fit combined with the lack of a point definitely suggests blowing up NPC rats (and probably in a mission). Vinius' fit is more or less perfect. If you're having trouble hitting ships with your railguns when they get close, consider replacing one of the cap rechargers with either a stasis webifier or a tracking computer. Though, so long as you remember to pack a flight or two of hobgoblins alongside your hammerheads, you can always just fall back on your drones for anything that gets under your guns. |
