Hey EvE,
Firstly sorry if this is in the wrong place, it seemed the best place to ask this. I have a 9m SP Character as my main at the moment, been playing the game very off and on for three years now and plan to get into it again and stay into it now. With his current and future skills and training I have planned this character fulfills a support role. I use him for sneaky cloaky operations and also for hauling, with an Electronic Warfare role for when he sees combat. In the future I plan on making supply runs between high and null sec with a blockade runner and, in the much further future, with a Jump Freighter.
I also have Black Ops in mind for this character and have recently started thinking about flying a Carrier in the much much further future (I understand 9m SP is far too early to think of flying capitals) and was wondering whether I'm simply planning too much for one character. Is it practical to do all this on one toon or should I make an alt now, start getting him in logistics ships and put him in a carrier a year down the line instead? |

Just aim for the Black Ops as you will have most of the pre-req for the carrier skills and good back skills in shields anyway. Just remember to have leadership at level 5 sometime for Fighters etc. Vote for Malcanis for CSM8 https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=192717&find=unread |

I think that knowing what you want in the future is exactly the RIGHT thing to do. Train things that help now, and help later as well.
I believe that keeping all that training on 1 character is also the right thing to do. Split training just adds up to multiple half-assed characters. *Unless* you are talking about a second account, in which case I train seperate accounts almost opposite from each other. Cap ships on 1, sub-caps on the other. Shield on 1, Armor on the other. etc. etc. |

Unless you have a very good reason to train a same-account alt, don't do it. It's often pointless and can be very redundant, as both characters are going to need many of the same support skills.
It is necessary to plan ahead in eve, but be careful not to fall into the trap of looking so far ahead you forget to play the game and have fun right now.

Train skills that improve your gameplay now, not in a year's time. You'll have the skills you need when you are ready for them. Be patient.
Prioritize skills: 1. That affect all ships. [a.k.a. core skills] 2. That affect many ships. [a.k.a. support skills] 3. That affect a few (or one) ship.
I'm a generalist: I prefer diversity over specialization. I accept that it takes me longer to train to the same level as other people. |
