So I have just started with the game .. visited that training facility with pirate drones, got some loot. The loot was the ship components .. The obvious desire is to fit them on my ship, but I lack many skills to do that yet. So are there any means to do the job other than doing it myself?

Just buy the skills, train them. --

With 'components' you probably mean modules to fit on your ship, yes that's the loot they drop.
I'm not sure what u mean by 'renting a skill' you can only buy skills, they're on the market in your starting station.
Market > Browse > skills > train them up.
I've recruited lots of new players when I was in an Industrial corp, and one of the newer players said, "God, u need a skill to wipe your arse in this game" ... He was right

I see what he is saying: The eve- version of doign this would be to have someone with the skills needed to fit the module borrow the ship, fit it and then give the ship back.
It USED to be possible, at least with "upgrade" style modules like cargo expanders. However, by "used" I mean in Beta. I have no idea now.

That's what I found infuriating when I started playing: you always had to have the skill yourself, no way to pay someone else to install modules for you. With modules that are actively used or that boost things that require character skill, it's different, but why on earth couldn't I get a simple cargo expander installed without training the skill myself? Luckily, the basic skills are pretty cheap and easy to get to lvl 1, but still, an option to pay extra for a NPC mechanic to install them would've been nice.
