Quote: In the movie the gate will function differently than it does in game. In the game, the gate runs through an animation loop for each ship passing through it. This didn't work very well visually in a linear sequence. In the movie when a group of ships uses the gate it will build up, like it does in game, then stay open, like you see it in the screenshot, and the ships will come flying through the middle of gate, out of the light. Only after all ships in the group have come through will the gate deactivate.
I think you've made a great decision here.
Please don't let it be for the ugly Amarr 'Mushroom' Titan.....

See Wildcard's remark about a NASA renderfarm being employed.
"I have a friend at NASA that will be doing the rendering for me using one of NASA's render farms."
I'm assuming we are talking about the same guy, altho I could ofc be wrong. _______________________________________________

"NASA

That's a relief; i reckon the alternative of the renderfarm being in the Fomalhaut star system... well, it'd probably take a while for all render data to travel there, and the render results to travel back ¼¼;;

Well, no doubt WC has got some type of assistance from the locals there as well. I'd not be surprised is we see some flying saucers turn up in the movie and vaporise some 50's-style diners here and there. _______________________________________________

The models and textures were extracted from the game by some very talented 3D programmers. The models are .obj format and are being animated and rendered with MAYA.

Screenshot looks great! How many people are working on the project in total?
In total, there are 14 people including myself (to date). Two people worked on the model extraction tool, one writing the dialog, one helped me with story development, one for music selection, one for sound effects, one for compositing, and one for rendering. I'm doing all the animation, storyboarding and directing of this production. There are a handful of others that are helping me with R&D here and there.
You guys, and everyone that does projects like this (Seleene, Lowa, Leafo, Llebring, Khanda, Max and many many others) are an absolute core of what makes this game so fun to play, and why this community is so addictive.
I've been playing for over a year and a half now. For any other game I show my friends, I give them a link and tell them to check it out. For Eve, I give them movies, and tell them "yes man, it really IS just like that, If you want it to be."
It just leaves them speachless. As it is right now, when I show someone Eve, I play 2 short videos. 1 is the Evol trailer for this CGI rendering kick, the other is Meridius' short (and gorgeous) clip of blowing up stuff in Eve. Anyone I show usually gets kinda speachless and just says "wow".
I could only dream of doing a project this intense. The kind of effort (time, resources, knowledge) it takes to do a project like this is simply more than even some of the best vid-makers have to offer.
It is obviously one of the most anticipated events in all of the Eve community. At this point, I would almost liken it to a Shiva patch. It will truely be ground breaking when it comes out. For that reason, I totally respect the time you guys want to invest in it, and ensure that everything is exactly the way you want it when you release it to the public.
So I guess we'll just have to wait, anxiously. ;) Big thx to all you guys (and gals) working on it.
where is meridius's clip and the evol trailer? id like to see

I know its tempting to release plenty of work as we progress shots, and the love is often needed justto get the motivation to continue, but be careful not to steal away the thunder of the eventual release. Have patience and discipline in your pre release management, and your eventual reward will be incredibly more satisfying.

I completely understand what your saying and we have made a very strong effort to resist showing some stuff. What we are showing the community is only a small fraction of what is to come when the movie is released. It's kinda like walking a tightrope of keeping the community interest and giving too much away, given the long production time.

that looks okay. I'd suggest using particles for the gate effect though. If you use max, I'd highly suggest getting Afterburn and using Particle flow.
