I understand the orbital strikes are either Factional or Corporate contracts for players, but why is that? Why was this heavy restriction put in place? Avoid server strain? You folks at CCP are gathering data? You don't want us EVE players to nuke the DUST players into well...dust and cause them to stop playing?
As i type this my Coercer is floating above a 0.5 planet where my DUST corpmate has been fighting the last few matches and i cannot do anything. That is for lack of a better word, frustrating. Yes the game is in beta but EVE and DUST players have so few interactions between them that not being able to do this, what i gather will be a core game mechanic between both games.
Despite the closed combat servers we can still communicate to each other in chat form. He was surprised to see orbitals being called in game despite our attempts to do. Why were orbitals replaced by NPC orbitals for quick matches is the part that truly baffles me. Does EVE online not have enough people with weapons on their ships to keep up with all the DUST matches?
So DUST is going to be in beta for how many more months? My guess is a minimum of 4. I know that doesn't sound nice when i say that. After 4 years of EVE online I've learned that changes come really slowly.
I'd like to get a DEV reply on this if possible. And don't get me wrong i love EVE and you guys at CCP so i can accept a "honestly we don't know" answer.

Because in high sec or "random match making battles" concord supplies the orbital bombardments after the players get enough WP :) |

He's not fighting in a FW fight by the sounds of it. Tell him to join a corporate and get a contract to attack or defend a planet in faction warfare. |

He is already in corp. Its the OP's corp, which, as far as I understand, is not involved in FW atm.

well not concord but the warbarge.
Eventually it will come a point where warbarges cannot strike the ground (in null) and all strikes must be player provided.

Because OBs are still in a barely functional state. DUST is more of a tech demo at this point. Orbitals should be reworked from their current killstreak status SOONGäó. |

It's still an early phase in development. CCP said that the system will expand over time. I probably guess that in 2-3 years we might see Capsuleer-inflicted orbital bombardments in high-sec one day. But even then you might need to have a wardec as a prerequisite. Adapt or Die |

Also you need to know where your shooting, otherwise a degree or so off and your hitting a housing unit rather than hitting a battlefield. www.dust514stats.com do you know? |

Housing Unit? I call that collateral damage. |

It's no fun for the other side if all that happens is constant OBs.

On a good missionrunning day I kill a bit over 1 million people in the form of NPC ship crews. Dunno how many people sit in these Asteroid factories, battlestations and docked badgers I wipe off just to see if they drop anything good.
So I think its fair to say that given opportunity I would glass over one side of a planet if there is going on something down there that interferes with my interests. So hitting a "housing unit" is not particularly high in my list of concerns. If accuracy is a bit lacking I'm willing to compensate by fielding a larger quantity of firepower.
I'm pretty condient that dozen or so Tahyion Apocalypses would be sufficient to hit eventually the target I'm hoping to hit.

If that was the case, I'd like to see orbitals as a very exclusive thing. Your right when you say orbitals should not be npc! When dust is out of BETA i hope they keep obs as a player ran thing. |

Ive been flying round a whole bunch of systems looking to support my Dust Bunny counterparts, haven't found one battle yet... not one... zip... zilch... nadda.
Got bored and went back to making LP.
Can we please get some sort of notification when in a system that a fround war is underway? |

According to the FAQ you have to learn the system from a DUST bunny, then fly to the system and hope it's not over already. Warp between districts in the hopes of finding a fight that is IF it's not a closed server. |

The interaction should, as of the next release, become smoother, as people get better options for where they're fighting. If you read the CSM minutes, the FW integration is mentioned there. I'll be running an Orbital Bombardment Event in conjunction with the last two weekends of the Dust Tourney. Be sure to stop by the "Dust OB" channel to keep up to date.
At least in low sec or until they figure out another way to balance it orbitals will always be limited. Dust has to be balanced internally as well and having it where Orbitals are an 'I-win" button would end up being bad for both games in the long run.
