I'm looking at pushing the envelop a bit more with my character, and was wondering if there was an 'upgrade' for doing missions better (least with either Caldari, or more specifically Amarr ships) . With my Abaddon I'm running into power grid issues with trying to fit more damage with just Tachyon, and also a bit of cap issues (not much though mind you, most things are dead by the time cap becomes an issue).
I researched tech II for large energy beams, but I have no where the amount needed to fit Tech II Tachyons. Should I start looking at number crunching for something like a Nightmare, a Paladin, or Navy Apoc? I have Caldari battleship V as well, but was also thinking maybe Navy Raven, or Golem or something. Someone even suggested a Tengu for missioning.
Current Abaddon fit is
8 Modulated Tachyon
3 Cap Recharger II 1 Tracking Computer II
3 Heat Sink II 1 Large Armor Repair II 2 Mission specific Hardeners II 1 Reactor Control Unit
Three CCC rigs. |

try researching t2 pulses with scorch as a replacement,
or the paladin as a logical progression.
Other turret battleships will be an easier and faster train as you should already have most if not all of the turret support skills. Its not possible to please all the people all the time, but it sure as hell is possible to Displease all the people, most of the time.

paladin or nightmare would be the straightforward upgrade. I love em both.
If you go with a caldari battleship in my experience you would want a cnr and golem, cnr with cruise for long range missions and golem for the awesome dps, but close range. or maybe having one of these with the nightmare in case you get a mission with insane tracking disruption. I think I'd lean to the CNR as I would assume the biggest TD issue would be on the blockade and the cnr does that pretty well.
tengu has a few select uses. primarily used for blitzing. in the blockade you can kill each trigger and then the completion ship and have the mission done in ~5mins. or get worlds collide done quick, hit the first gate with the hacker key, blitz to the next gate, killing anything that webs you, killing the near group in the last room and saving the ship crew. although a battleship with a mjd could do most blitzes pretty easily too. |

Good advice. One correction. As of late you have to kill all the ships in the last room of WC. |

I'd recommend a CNR for Caldari because you can select damage types easily so can have a easy time with other missions or a paladin for amarr. One of the best things about amarr (marauders especially) is that faction crystals are cheap because they hardly burn out and they add very nice DPS. But before you use a pally, a apoc navy issue would be very good. We must embrace pain and use it to fuel our POS |

You sound surprised at the suggestion of a Tengu for missioning. They can be very good at certain missions, Duo of Death for example where you need to kill 2 Battleships (and 2 Spider Drones if you don't have 40 km tractor beams), typically 2 jumps away from your agent's system. In a mission like that the ~50% faster align time and 110% faster warp speed compared to a BS/Marauder (I have the Gravitational Capacitor and a Hyperspacial Velocity rig on my mission Tengu) outweigh the benefit of the extra DPS a BS provides.
Ideally for mission running you want a sniping BS (although a Cruise missile CNR could be replaced with a HML Tengu prior to the HML nerfs) a heavy DPS BS, a fast cruiser-sized ship with decent DPS (T2/T3/faction cruiser), something really fast (Dramiel/Interceptor) and a Shuttle. It's up to you though, you can obviously rely on a single ship, but having the optimal ship for each mission makes you more money and in my opinion makes running missions a little more interesting. |

CNR, Tengu, Navy Apoc, Paladin and Nightmare are all great ships. The laser ships sort of suck for Angel Cartel missions because of the damage types. I prefer the CNR or Tengu. I fly both, and both are cheaply fit and still very effective.
My alt flew a Paladin while I flew a Golem for a while. Both were great and worked well together clearing missions fast. I just didnt care much for spending so much isk on mission boats. Most Im willing to spend is on a t3 with a cheap t2 fit, and a Navy Faction BS with a cheap fit. Most people like the Mach for its awesome dps and ability to do all missions well. Ive thought of doing the same. I just hate spending so much on a mission boat.
Been using a mjd on the cnr, and that is a fun ship to fly. Im thinking of doing that with some other ships. Been doing it with a Rohk, and that is kickass. |

When I was running missions still, I used the following:
Tachyon Nightmare for the majority of missions. Tengu for Dread Pirate Scarlet and just about nothing else. CNR for Guristas missions Maelstrom for the occasional Angels mission. Stabber with no guns, just a MWD and tank, for Recon 2/3
I was flying in Amarr space if that matters at all to you. |
