With many skills provided in game they serve little to no value when trained to lvl 5.
For instance, if you're a miner who mines with a fleet and are thus not reponsible for reprocessing, then training lvl 5 for each crystal type is a waist of time.
Like wise, with many other skills in game, the small percentage gain from training lvl 5 is often not worth extremely long training times.
As another example I present lvl 5 of any advanced weapon system.
What I propose is incentive bonuses for training a skill to lvl 5.
Suggestion, with individual reprocessing skills, at lvl 5 they could either give a 2% bonus to mining yield, or they could last longer.
With weapon systems it could be a range bonus, damage bonus, tracking/exp radius/exp velocity bonus.
Basically any type of bonus that would influence players to actually want to train a skill to lvl 5.
With some ships and skills the bonuses are quite relevant.
For instance when using a logistics ship, getting the related skills to lvl 5 makes a huge difference. Like wise with certain, but few, other skills.
Then there are ships like Marauders where lvl 5 doesn't really make that much of a difference.
If there was some type of incentive to get lvl 5 then more players would focus skills rather than jumping from skill to skill.

Lvl 5 are all about specializing in the role. You dont have to train refining skills to 5 because someone else already specialized in that and is doing refining for your group. So why do you wish to train them then?
And even if it seems that from lvl 4 to lvl 5 in for example gunnery support skills is not a huge leap in damage/performance, when you add it all together and take a couple of them to lvl 5 it starts to add up, the difference in damage comparing all lvl 4 pilot to all lvl 5 is huge.

this basically.
take a mach pilot with no interest in going carrier ratting. Vargur doesn't thrill him. He is basically "done" eve atm and has but 1 option, max the mach.
He learns the large ac spec 5...2% Learns surgical strike 5....3%
That is 5% there. that is a somewhat costly 5% implant right there built right into the character. Unless they forget to fix clone after a podding, no person can ever take that 5% from them (assuming the rng gods pick either skill ofc).
Now if old boy throws on a 5% damage implant...its 10%.
Since he is probably mach'ing it for quite a while, it be in his best interest to max that ship.
Rest of this...don't like the 5 don't train it. |

They should remove all lvl5 prerequisites. Otherwise training time is fine. That level of specialization should be a choice, not a prerequisite. Standings Improvement Service https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=19454 |

While I can see your point, it wouldn't be a good idea. Level 5 training requires you to accept tbe consequence of time for the same bonus as level 1. This means that even though you have an edge, it's not dramatic. But as others point out, they do stack up quite nicely. If you increased the bonus for level 5, not only does it mess with consequences, but it also screws over new players. It introduces a catch up mechanic and for that reason alone, sorry bud I'll have to say no.

This man speaks wisdom. Listen and heed his words. Adding the notion of "catching up" to the Eve skill system has been an unintended consequence of a lot of threads lately, and it would do far more harm than good to the game.
