I was just perusing the forbidden posts to try and catch up on space happenings and I came across this post. Parsing the context a bit the tl;dr; takeaway for me was "market botting isn't illegal because there are no consequences." Seems like I've been wasting my time even writing petitions about suspected market botters. They've just been going into a black hole. (Petitions in a black hole system get a +10 to pointlessness and take a severe give-a-s***ter penalty.)
If you can run one of these "cache scraping" scripts... I mean wtf is the point? So I was all pis'd and thinking about where I was going to get a script like this when it occurred to me, CCP has programmers, and I bet they could make this happen pretty easily and just incorporate it into the game instead of forcing players into rolling the dice on third party scripts. So how about it, CCP? Can we get a max/min best price script going when we post a buy or sell order? I mean, that shouldn't be hard to write, right? Anybody with me on this? Anyone know of a good script I could use in the meantime?

You don't seem to understand what cache scraping is. This is EVE - Everybody Versus Everybody.

He is still right about it would be better if it was a feature in the client, and not something you would have to run third-party applications to do. |

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't that whole topic about someone getting banned for market botting and CCP upholding the ban? |

All I need now it find a way to plug my Hign Frequency Black Box Trading rig into Jita and all will be ok.
I have no ideea what cache scraping is but I assume in this case the 3rd party program just reads your cache and returns to you the orders that need updating and the amount needed or something but dose not help you update the orders really fast as in the case of the E-uni guy? |

You are wrong, using the cache files is allowed using software to automate the process of modifying orders is not, which is why he got banned.

Still have never paid my ::tenbux::, sorry everybody.
A good cache scraping feature (plus cache updater) would be a good addition to the game client. I didn't address that because of your conflation of Cache Scraping with botting in your OP. This is EVE - Everybody Versus Everybody.

OK then... correct me if I'm wrong, but if it isn't automated, how is it botting? And if its not botting, what is this topic based off of when it clearly stated that the OP believes "market botting is allowed"? |

The OP just don't know how data sculpting works and what is allowed and that is not. |

All that drama and OP doesn't even know what botting is.
Since third party stuff is reliant on players to be aware of it, and to use it in order to update, if CCP were to do this how and to what extent do you think they should limit it? If the client just updates all movement in realtime what are the implications? There's nothing worse than an EVE player, generally considered to be top of the food chain in the MMO world, that cannot smacktalk with wit and coherency. |

Anyone know of a good script I could use in the meantime? You want a feature, which lets you set an upper and a lower price for your orders and have the game adjust it so that it changes the price to maximize your profit, right? If so then the botters will start changing the min/max price with scripts and you get beat again.
My suggestion to you: just set your orders to the price you want and walk away from them.
Stop trying to participate in 0.01 ISK wars. You just end up sitting docked at a station for hours a day. Rather find places where you still can make a profit easily and you will find that the game can be played without bots, without grinding the UI and still get a profit from it. Don't expect anybody to use common sense. No one in his right mind would believe that regions with less items would enable anybody to sell these items at a higher price ... right ? That's just silly, really ! Inappropriate signature removed. Spitfire |

The entire thread is about how market botting isn't allowed and how, if Sreegs could decide unilaterally, even some market non-botting would be illegal too. Vote Malcanis for CSM8. |
