Is it just me, or is the drama boat following E-Uni a bit to close to the stern recently? Particularly with their CSM?
Second, "Against stupidity even the gods contend in vain."-Friedrich Schiller. I respect E-Uni on teaching people the nuances of EVE, but how strict are these rules? If I join, am I likely to be banned for talking to wartargets in local? I would hope that E-Uni understands that not everybody who joins is an idiot and will give them critical information...Which is why it's hard to believe these claims.
Thirdly, I've always been under the impression that U-Mad were fine guys, but I was clearly wrong based on this quote.

Dis Gon Be Gud
Reading these walls of texts about conspiracy theories and smack talk has been fantastic.
I was contemplating writing a wall of text about my experience in and out of E-uni but I'll settle on saying that this thread has reaffirmed my views that E-Uni Leadership has absolutely no idea how to play this game or handle a large online institution outside of pushing Kelduum's own political agenda (or what's left of it).

It's a lot easier to explain to your 2000 blind followers that it got dropped by RvB than to just unanchor it. You don't have to believe me, but there's a good number of directors who wanted it gone. It wasn't even a functioning POS. No research or production facilities, no real defenses to mention, and no actual purpose, other than a safe rally point and an almost insta-undock from PTS.
1. We defended it gloriously, but in the end, we lost in a valiant effort. 2. We took it down because it sucks and we don't want to fuel it or manage it.
Which would you prefer?
Also, 20B is a drop in the bucket to a massive corp like the University. In the last 120 days, how much ISK has RvB given the University? I would love to see your corp/alliance transaction history on this matter. |

The only way RVB could mine a moon is if it required them to crash rifters in to it !

They might have made some money out of salvage of all those wrecks we left behind.
I think that guy is writing from his "secluded compound in the woods" with his tinfoil hat on and his guns waiting for the secret RvB/E-Uni secret govern sponsored blackops army to drop on him.

The correct way to go about this, is to be OPEN with your corp mates and hold votes, dont be scared, it all comes down to, Who wants to be in a crappy corp with known traitors?
Im not going to side with the OP since I know the spy game all to well, but id definitely side with his opinion over any EvE uni leaders opinions at this point especially after reading an extremely goon like response from non other then a CSM sticker, this could potentially make CSM look bad, its an extremly thoughtless and political reply from EvE uni which lowered my respect for them as soon as I finished reading the "Friend hi whats up" response. Shameless.
The spy that this person speaks of, will have no less then 3 more alts in that corp, but removing him from a leadership position is recommended EMEDIATLY, as this person speaks for thousands of others who im sure don't agree with selling recruits or information.
at the very least his access to API keys should be removed as soon as remotely possible, as wallet/past corp API information is... Valuable. |

As an ex eve-uni pilot who had just started playing the game in October when I flew through a few months of the E-UNI / UMAD war- and later came back to fight against the uni in the RVB v. E-UNI war, here's my ramble on U-MAD and the uni.
U-MAD, when the war started out, man, I hated you guys. Ripping on U-MAD was the way we made ourselves feel better about our shortcomings, blaming the success of U-MAD on out of corp boosters and expensive tech 3 cruisers. The reality was that we collectively lacked the ability to adapt as a PvP organization. I'll get to why I think that is later.
But as I started to get back into the game I really found a great deal of enjoyment from small gang and particularly solo play, I moved out of Aldrat for a while. For whatever reason, all I cared about was getting in on killmails when I was in Aldrat- rather than just playing the game for enjoyment and playing to sharpen my skills. I spent a while living mostly alone in null focusing on trying to get better at solo pvp. I learned what it was like to be on the receiving end of blob warfare as a solo pilot.
I also started realizing how ridiculous our antics over U-MAD were. I still hung out in Operation Fortress comms occasionally, and I started feeling intrigued by how U-MAD pilots flew and the tactics they used- how they were able to win fights while being outnumbered, and at times out-shipped. I started visiting U-MAD killboards for fitting ideas, tried to understand the techniques that might be used to fly them. When conversations about U-MAD came up, I was more neutral on the matter- occasionally getting a bit defensive when a unista talked about how MAD was only around to kill noobs in mining barges. I talked to U-MAD in local for the first time and had a convo with Naginata that lasted a while, and realized, hey, these guys are pretty cool. They're also complete trolls and a bunch of asshats, but almost in a likable way.
When I started flying with RVB, I tried to emulate U-MAD's style with some of my own tactics. I picked up a couple of things watching some of the other pilots in RvB that like to play with the "1 v blob" style of play, and found I really enjoyed it, even if I could only emulate it mediocrely. But I was improving. I started learning how to take on a fleet of 20 guys with a 5 mil isk slasher and still come out alive and with kills. And I had a blast doing it.
The reality is, now that I've grown immensely as a pilot since being in the UNI (and despite my increasing tendency to boast and troll in local, I do confess I still see myself as being a noob) looking back I think fighting U-MAD was the best thing that happened to me while I was a unista. Even though at the time I found it frustrating- I eventually learned from my mistakes and became a better pilot for it.
The point I'm making is that, speaking as someone who has both been in the uni and fought against the uni, I agree with the statement that U-MAD is the best thing to happen to the uni. And for me personally, if it wasn't for U-MAD, I'd probably still be flying in a blob and waiting for the FC to call primary so I could push F1.
So what's wrong with the UNI and why can't it adapt? Here's two reasons from my perspective.
1). "Too big to fail"
The uni just has just gotten too large for its own good. For more or less a good reason, maybe - the uni is easily the most well known training corp in eve, so it's an easy place to apply to when new players don't know where to go. But then a lot of people just end up sticking around in the uni for ages - not really challenging themselves or trying to achieve something new, just going with the flow of the masses. You log in, you x up, you blob, you get on killmails. I'm not saying everyone in the uni lives this way, but for a pretty big portion of the university - this is what they do. And so what happens when 100 people x up? You sit in a big giant fleet, wait to be told when to jump, when to warp, and when to press the f1 key. So if added pressure from war targets and people feeling down about losing the POS in the RVB war gets some people to move on from the uni - that's honestly probably a good thing for everyone.
Like Zeus said - E UNI is like sticking 100 students in with 1 teacher. That's just not an ideal way to learn the game.
2). Lack of solo pvp and small gang experience
I'm a huge advocate of solo pvp. I think it's great. It challenges you as a pilot because you have to rely on your own decision making skills. I'd go so far as to say that people who are interested in FC'ing should start out by improving their solo pvp and small gang play, because it really teaches you how to play the game effectively from the ground up, and gives you a realistic idea of what an individual pilot or ship is capable of.
There's a major lack of solo pvp'ers in eve-uni. There's a couple really talented solo pilots - but they are a minority (especially when you don't count arranged 1v1 fights as solo pvp, which I don't because those fights lack all of the decisions leading up to a fight, which is 90% of EVE anyways). Majority of the uni pilots I encountered solo during the RVB war either didn't want to fight or only picked a fight because they had backup of 30 guys on the way.
The thing is though, I think there's probably a decent number of uni pilots moderately interested in solo pvp, they just have no idea where to start because solo pvp isn't heavily celebrated or taught by the uni. So encourage it more. Give a class on solo pvp: how to effectively fit a ship for solo, how to find solo fights in low sec, how to manage a fight when you're outnumbered, etc. Have people actually watch U-MAD and learn what makes them successful in a fight. Learn from your opponents tactics, not just from your own mistakes.
And on a last note, for what it's worth, good job U-MAD. Sorry we drew you guys out to be such villains.
