While serving on the previous three CSMs, I have methodically worked to make the CSM an effective tool for influencing CCP, and diligently represented the interests of all players of EVE, not just a particular narrow constituency.
If re-elected, I will continue to pressure CCP to deliver improvements to the game that the current players of the game want, and to justify their decisions. The hard work done during CSMs 5-7 has clearly demonstrated to CCP how productive engaging with both the CSM and the community can be, and I will continue my efforts to build on that success.
I will continue to make sure CCP is forced to confront difficult and at times uncomfortable questions. We are paying for this game, so they should justify their decisions with hard numbers and good business sense.
Areas of particular interest to me (as a player and professional) include: the User Interface, Trade & Industry, large-scale social features, and review and iteration of popular game features.
I will zealously ensure that CCP receives advice that represents the positions of as many different player groups as possible. The CSM should properly represent the interests of the entire community.
Finally, as the only significantly active member of CSM7 running for re-election, I am uniquely placed to ensure the continuity of CSM operations going into CSM8, a matter of some concern given the additional responsibilities that have been placed on CSM over time -- a trend I expect will continue.
I hope you will honor me with your vote, and encourage your friends in EVE to do this same. A high turnout in the CSM 8 elections is important, not just for me personally, but because it demonstrates player support for the progress CSM has made; the more votes are cast, the louder our voice becomes, and the more we can accomplish for you, our fellow players.
Accomplishments during CSMs 5-7
As vice-secretary of CSM 5, secretary of CSM 6, and vice-chairman of CSM 7, I was a primary author and/or editor of almost all CSM Blogs and Summit Reports.
In CSMs 5 and 6, I raised, championed and pushed through significant CSM proposals aimed at benefiting broad groups of EVE players (in particular, User Interface related issues), such as the Removal of Learning Skills, the User Interface - Big Wins, Fan Favorites and Low Hanging Fruit Proposal, the Planetary Interaction Omnibus Proposal, and the Possibly Practical POS Performance Proposal. Elements of many of these proposals have found their way into the game.
I created, developed and managed the concept of Prioritization Crowdsourcing, which was used to poll the players and determine what items on the CSM in-process list should be given the highest priority in negotiations with CCP. When CCP shifted their focus back to Flying-in-Space development in the Fall of 2011, these lists helped determine what got developer time.
Furthermore, I have steadfastly pushed for CCP to deliver on their promise to make CSM a full stakeholder in the development process. I spearheaded the effort that resulted in CSM 7's Development Strategy document, which influenced the creation of CCP's new development model, and resulted in CSM becoming intimately involved in the Release Planning for new expansions at the earliest stages. Slowly, carefully, and methodically, I have expanded the ability of the CSM to influence the evolution of the game in directions that reflect the wishes of the community.
I have consistently made myself available to the community, answering questions via Email and on the forums, and (when appropriate) bringing player concerns direct to interested devs at CCP. I have consistently encouraged CCP devs to reconnect to the EVE community and go directly to players for feedback about game features, and over the last 18 months there has been a significant uptick in this activity.
Finally, I regularly blog about the CSM process, and regularly post on the Eve-Online and other forums.
A Little About Me
My RL name is Robert Woodhead. I am 54 years old, and live in North Carolina with my wife and two children. I am the author of the first 4 games in the Wizardry series of RPG games, as well as one of the first anti-virus programs, Virex. In other words, I'm an old-school hacker (in the original, good sense of the word) -- in fact, I was the Hacking Consultant for the film "Real Genius".
I am also a founder and CEO of AnimEigo, the oldest surviving Anime company in the US, and a corporate person who is now old enough to drink. I lived in Japan for over 6 years working on AnimEigo and other projects, and speak Japanese well enough to impress gaijin and amuse nihonjin.
In my spare time, in addition to playing EVE, I also build and fight combat robots, write the occasional bit of free software, and I'm one of the few EVE pilots who actually knows what Zero-G feels like.
I have been playing EVE for a little over 5 years now, and in that time I've lived in hisec, lowsec, nullsec (npc and sov) and wormholes. Currently I fly with Dirt Nap Squad, where I enjoy camping entire regions; I also have a second character who provides industrial support to a Wormhole-based corporation. In addition, I have written several private API tools to help me trade and manage production pipelines, as well as the EViE browser-based skill training monitor (for iPhone and all major desktop browsers).
PS: to answer the inevitable question, "Are you doing this just to get a free trip to Iceland?", the answer is "I'm 54 and have a bad back. Flying to Iceland isn't a reward... it's a punishment!"
I will admit, however, that one side-effect of being on CSM is that I seem to lose 5 kilos per term. My wife calls it the "CSM Diet", and says one more term ought to get me totally ripped.

While Trebor and I rarely agree, he is one of the hardest working and most articulate CSM Reps we've ever had. CSM8 will need powerful voices with aggressive agendas to balance out Trebor's persuasive voice of caution, but I fully expect those voices to be there to challenge him. And when Trebor gets a challenge, he tends to rise above it and bring the CSM along for the ride.
I think it's incredibly important that there be some continuity between CSM7 and CSM8, so I am glad to see Trebor take the bullet for the community and run once more. "Alekseyev Karrde: mercenary of my heart."-á -Arydanika, Voices from the Void

What can I say about Trebor that hasn't already been said before? I was honestly relieved when I saw that he decided to run again, because he will be without a doubt the CSMs most valuable asset. Trebor is an incredibly hard worker, pragmatic, knowledgeable, and very passionate about the position. He has an uncanny ability to both inspire and motivate those around him. Amazingly, his drive has only gotten stronger since I've been around on the CSM (since CSM 6).
I do not say this lightly: a CSM without Trebor would be at a massive disadvantage.

If you want maximum value for your vote, Trebor's your man. No one else has proven their value to this institution over the years more than he. Trebor Daehdoow brings to the CSM wisdom, experience, and the temperament to keep composure through stressful times and helps keep the group focused on the prize at all times (forward progress with CCP). He is not swayed by the public pressure to produce spectacles, and he knows both when to take action and when to use diplomacy instead. He is respected by CCP and his advice is listened to.
Trebor will provide the much-needed continuity between the work we've accomplished this year and that which CSM8 will accomplish, especially with regards to the Stakeholder project, which absolutely must continue for the sake of preserving the voice of every player.
I will be giving Trebor one of my votes, and I hope you all will as well! Vice Secretary of the 7th Council of Stellar Management.

Trebor, a few hints collected bring me to one critical question. * Your Blog is not updated as often as it used to be. Granted, the fallout of summer 2011 gave material to write about, but still there was more to read from you in the last years and there is less to read these days. * You start the recent entry with "After much consideration, I've decided to run for CSM8." * Finally, the first post in this thread ends with the quote of your wife "... one more term ought to get me totally ripped".
This, to me, sounds like you are (or were) not fully convinced to do this any longer. Even if one more year, it doesn't seem likely there will be any further.
What convinced you to continue and invest as much energy to maintain your previous quality of work?
I know one can't predict the future, but to me it seems likely that you won't be running for CSM9. So I am unsure whether to invest in inevitable newcomers already instead. upro - an online browser application to support navigation in New Eden and beyond. |

According to the CSM minutes, you want to completely wussify highsec, turning it into a carebear heaven where they can safely affect the rest of the game wtih no risk. This is clear evidence that you are utterly clueless. How would you respond to concerned voters who are worried that you'll actually get CCP to further reduce the already minimal risk that exists in highsec? No, your rights end in optimal+2*falloff

1. As a memebr of DNS - Excellent
2. As a memebr of the eve community- Trebor has been introduce to more game play styles during his time in DNS. He showed up on our door step 2 years ago looking for a change in his game play stlye and to have the fun injected back into his game time. Over those 2 years Trebor has seen every member of DNS participate in the sandbox to its fullest. For high sec ganking, can flipping, high sec care bearing, incursions, worm holes, low sec pvp, 0.0 pvp, pos pvp, structure grinding and the list goes on and on. He is always seeking knowledge on each play style so he can develope his over all approach to being a productive CSM memeber.
3. Trebor has also been a voice for the clandestine community as a whole. He will also be the link for all the new memebers of the CSM 8 so we do not take a step backwards in 2013. CCP has finally seen the value of this groups and alot of that is do to CSM 5, CSM 6, CSM 7. All of these he was an anchor on and CSM needs him to pass the torch.
I look forward to campaigning for him during this election cycle.

Anyone who runs for CSM because they want to get CCP to implement any particular item is either naive or disingenuous. What effective CSMs do is provide decision support.
This can be something as focused as critiquing a devblog draft or making a good argument about a proposed change to the game, or as broad as arguing for a change in the way CCP plans releases.
That document, and CSM participation in release planning for the summer 2013 expansion (which you'll find out more about soon) were two of the high-points of CSM7 for me because they played to my strengths -- I am pretty good at finding consensus and crafting decent arguments, in particular those with a business focus (because never forget, CCP is a business).
In earlier CSMs, the prioritization crowdsourcing efforts I lead meant that when CCP decided to put more resources into fixing the existing game, CSM had a ready-made, organized list we could point to. That provided information that let CCP get more bang for their development buck.
CSM is all about trying to help CCP make decisions that are just a little bit better. A CSM can't point to something and honestly say "I made this happen", but working as part of the entire group, you can honestly say "We helped make things better". While there will be some quality candidates running for CSM 8, everyone should save at least one of their votes to ensure Trebor is able to continue carrying the torch. His knowledge of the CSM, the game itself and ability to work with others ensures that he will be an asset for EVERY player. Trebor is passionate about his own opinions, but perfectly capable of being objective when the time for consensus is needed. He has the time and ability to do the hard work necessary to ensure a successful CSM. In my opinion, over three CSM terms, he has proven to be the best of us.
