I'm still a pilot in training, but I'm try to look ahead. I'm a Minmatar with IV projectile weapons, V gunnery, and the core certificates trained. I got two bonus ships, a Caldari explorer frigate and, when I bought a GTC, a Catalyst. I've been training up for the Catalyst and want to use it once I get to level I missions. The question: should I stay with the Gallente for PVE, or will a Minmatar or Caldari cruiser/battleship be better once I get to the high level combat missions? |

The answer depends on whether you prefer missiles or guns. Missiles always hit but will do less damage as a rule, guns can do more damage but you have to be aware of ranges, ammo types etc.
You are not restricted to what you can train so ultimately train both |

Also. There is no real best race for PvE.
This is because PvE is broad..
Exploration = PvE Missions = PvE Incursions = PvE Wormhole sites = PvE
Every race has its ships which are good and bad at certain jobs. And each of them just need a different style of flying to be good.
Flying an Amarr Apocalypse as if it were a Caldari Raven will NOT work... |

Study the four faction ship styles (shield/armor and turret/drones etc) and choose which you prefer.
There is no best one. Just strengths and weaknesses of each.
Then focus your training around which ever you chose.
you can always diversify later on, but its better not to train a bit of everything at first, or training takes 2 or 3 times longer to be good at anything. As long as there's dudes left to kill, EVE is alive. |

I will have to disagree with the last part, partially.
I say, try all 4 (not up to battleship though).
Skill the four races frigates, gun types and bit of shield and armor. Try them all out and find what you like.
THEN, specialize your training in the thing you liked most.
If you meet your goal (say...Be a fully trained and decent battleship pilot) you can always skill up the other race / guns you liked. |

What I meant to get accross was that it doesnt matter which race you choose, you can always train up the others later.
Hope thats better advise. As long as there's dudes left to kill, EVE is alive. |

Flying an Amarr Apocalypse as if it were a Caldari Raven will NOT work... I don't think people realize how different ships can be, even when they are from the same race.
Experience trumps skills too.
I had tons of experience in a Drake, from C3 Sleepers to level 4 missions, when I moved into a Raven. I lost my first Raven one day after I got it, because I wasn't as familiar with it. I never lost another, because I adjusted my tactics. I can now do stuff in a Raven that are impossible in a Drake (like ignore triggers in level 4 missions), but it takes experience.
Recently I tried a Corax destroyer for the first time, and would have lost it shortly after warp-in to a level 2 mission, if I hadn't the experience to realize it wasn't as sturdy as my favorite blaster Harpy which has a massive tank. I adjusted my tactics, and was just as capable in the Corax (actually, the Corax can tear-up level 1 and level 2 missions much faster than a Harpy, but my Harpy can also do most level 3 missions and the Corax can't). |

Chiming in to proclaim Minmatar ships are fine for PVE. While missiles are the easiest to use weapons for PVE, it's entirely possible to stick to the Minmatar shipline (and even projectile weapons) for your missioning needs. It's just another type of gameplay. In my experience I can clear mission sites faster then my missile-slinging Caldari friends, but I also have a weaker tank and I must constantly adapt my flight path. So instead of focussing on tank, you focus on removing incoming DPS as quickly as possible... so less and less damage is projected your way over the course of the mission. |

Thinking of relevance of idiocy... The proper word (contraction) that you need is "you're." It's a contraction of "you" and "are." Mizara's Dollhouse - Do you play with Dolls?
