In the real world military systems go through an evolution of development. There is the first production model, then as shortcomings are found through trail by fire testing newer models are made and brought into service. Many air force planes are in their 6th, 7th, or 8th upgraded models now. The B-52 is already 50 years old and because the original air frame design is so sound, it may be in service for another 30 or 40 years, with continuing upgrades to the avionics and electronics systems.
To add more flavor and a little realism to the current range of available ships, I propose releasing a range of tech 1 ships that are simply updates to the current ships. These would be the Mark 2 line of ships. They would allow more diversity and a better medium for newer players during the transition from tech 1 to tech 2 ships. Or a compromise in the middile for price versus ability. They also do not require any new ships to be designed and rendered for game designers. Just more number plugging...
For instance the Mark 2 cormorant with 15 more power grid for helping mount heavier weapons, and 20% speed bonus. Or the Mark 2 Raven with a bonus to missile guidance so they would do more damage against frigates and cruisers. Or a Mark 2 Thorax with power grid bonus so it could mount 5 neutrons with no problem. These ships would have higher mineral requirements to build, possibly need small amounts of tech 2 components (just a little) and cost more.
So without further delay, here are number of ideas for the Mark 2 Gallente ships, some or all of the bonuses could be added into the Mark 2 versions. Ships could be anywhere from 20% to 200% extra cost of the Mark I (original) ships...Some ships deliberately left out. s...
Haulers Mark II
Iterons 1-5 Speed bonus / extra low slot / cargo cap bonus / +1 warp core strength / drone bay
Frigates Mark II
I am not familiar with the gallente frigates off the top of my head but some bonuses you could have would be...
Speed / agility / cap recharge / mwd speed or cap bonus / drone bay bonus / warp scramble - webber range - strength bonus / extra low or mid slot / extra turret / better resistances / smaller signature radius / longer lock range / less cap need for modules / more effectiveness on modules
Cruisers Mark II
-Vexor Armor resist or Hp bonus / Extra turret hp / longer drone range, speed, damage, life, agility / larger drone bay / base speed, cap, grid bonuses
-Thorax More grid to easily mount all neutrons / base armor, cap recharge, drone bay, speed bonus / drone bonuses like vexor for damage ect / tracking bonus / optimal range and fall off bonuses / extra low or mid slot / launcher hp for defenders
Battleships Mark II
- Dom 20% bonus to energy vampires / formentioned bonuses to drones / formentioned bonuses listed for thorax or vexor / two launcher hard points -Megathron formentioned drone, gunnery, module bonuses for effectiveness and cap need, extra low slot / extra mid slot / drone control bonus / mwd use bonus for cap /
Battlecruisers Mark II
-Brutix Same types of Bonuses...dont really care for BC :)

I think the Dominix should have one or two more medslots and a 1000m¦ cargohold...

How many of these threads have you started ? is there a minmatar and a caldari one as well ?
I said it on the amarr Thread and i'll say it on this one.

I am starting to see that wouldve been much wiser :)
But the thing about having newer production models of the same old ship is that CCP could easily do some number plugging and make these new versions. So in the time it takes to design and render and test a new ship class, they could make 10 of these ships.
Now I have read alot about newer players wanting something better than their normal tech 1 ships, but they cant afford tech 2 or dont have the skills to use them. Then the veteran players often cant stand the prices of tech 2 ships, so the Mark II production models would be a nice substitute instead.
These would be easy to implement for the devs and would be fun for us to have. It would give producers something more to make and both new and older players something to buy thats better than tech 1 ships, but not as expensive as tech 2 ships.

Instead of doing Mark II ships.
Just do Frigs, Cruisers and BS's that require The relevant skills trained to Level 4 and 5. Currently Frigates Cruisers and BS's only require up to level 3 of their respective Skills to Fly (2 For BS's I believe) I think they need ships that Require Level 4 or 5 In amarr/gallent/minmatar/caldari Frigate etc. and So on.
Id rather have new looking ships than better old ones. |

Well look at it from CCPs standpoint. They could implement these Mark II ships by playing with some numbers on ship stats. Or they could design and render whole new ships, and worry about balancing them out, testing them out...
These would be easy to do, which means faster additions to the game. Ships to keep people happy between the big content patches with actual entirely new ships.

appreciated, Content Update would be harder. But its gotta be more worthwhile than having just a mark II Version of the same ship. The only thing I find dull about EvE is looking at the Same ships day in day out. (Apart from the Sexy Green/Blue Trails on the diemos, damn I love those)
Mind you sayig that If they made the Mark II's in a different colour I'd accept it in a shot. |

I am sure making it a new color would be easy :) Dont tell me the only reason you didnt support the idea is because I didnt mention they would get a new paint job lol
