Hey all,
So I just recently got back in to EVE online after moving all the way around the world. I was hoping some helpful players could let me in on a few things I'm wondering about that might have changed.
Since I only have around 10mil SP I was considering making a new character and just playing through as a total beginner, anyone do this? how long did it take you?
I fly interceptors, specifically Amarr interceptors, are the Crusader and Malediction punching OK or should I look at heading over to Caldari or Minmatar?
How far does 200~mil isk go? Its what I currently have in the bank but not having played since 2010 I'm struggling to recall how much this is?
What is this new Bounty Hunting jazz all about? is that something I should look into as a player who enjoys small count PVP?
I have 300,000 SP unspent, how and why did I get this? can you earn SP now?
Lastly, any tips and tricks you wished you new if you've gotten back into the game recently?
Thanks for your time and replies! |

There is no reason to make another character, unless you really don't like your name. You can run through every starter agent's tutorials once per character which is 12 times in total. All you need to do is go to the station and ask for a mission, and there you go.
Depending how old you are, interceptors have changed a lot. They are now not the kick-arse machines they used to be. They are specialist tacklers now.
The spkill points you have unallocated are because the learning skills were removed from game. Everyone was given an attribute boost so they basically have the same as level 5 in all learning skills, and the SP you had spent on learning have been refunded. I found it useful to keep them in the unallocated pool sot hat if you suddenly find you need level 4 or some new skill to do something, you can just go BAM and have it instantly.
200 mil won't get you anywhere near as far as it did when you last played...

You should be mostly fine as you are.
Running through the Career Agents (all 5) should give you a quick & easy refresher on eve-life, you'll find a handy link to them on the help menu (F12?). The 5 tutorials and "SoE L1 Epic Arc" will take less than 2 weeks to complete, how much time exactly depends on how long each day you spend doing them.
If your after small scale pvp you might want to look into Faction Warfare, RvB or one of the many Lo-Sec or Wormhole Corps. If you don't enjoy the scanning tutorial scratch wormhole corp off your list
Review the patch notes for the Frigate/Cruiser rebalancing Combat & Attack roles will probably interest you more, so have a good read of how those ships were changed.
welcome back.

1.) I won't start over, it's a waste of skills trained you WILL train again with a new character. Just redo the tutorial agents to get back into EVE and move from there.
2.) Currently the EVE ships are in flux. CCP is changing them all. So read up on the changes and on tiercide and look in game what you like.
3.) 200 mil is worth a lot less then when you left in 2010. I started around that time and prices only went up.
4.) If you want small scale PvP....Faction Warfare or RvB are my suggestions.
5.) The unallocated skillpoints come from the deletion of some social skills and the deletion on ALL learning skills. CCP refunded the SP you put into skills that got deleted so that you can reallocate them to anything else.
6.) tip: Have fun, that's all that matter. |
