I'm used to having eve open as a window and tabbing around to other windows as my attention wanders. For example I'll be mining in a belt and reading the forums in a browser window on top of that. It's easy to see around the edges when ore is in my hold so I click over and drop it in the can, and switch back.
I just got a new graphics card however (6800 gt), and now this whole situation is acting quite different. Whenever I open another window now it saves a stationary screenshot of whatever was on the screen the moment the new window overlaid the eve window. When I tab back and forth whatever part of the browser window that is horizontal to the eve window is replaced with this initial image. This makes mining, or travel, or whatever much less fun to do while reading forums and things, because I constantly have to switch back and forth just to see what is really going on instead of seeing this stationary screen image that is minutes old. Is there something peculiar in the nvidia drivers that makes this happen? Some overlay setting somewhere that I can turn on or off so it will always show the real time game window behind my browser window? Does anyone have the slightest clue what I'm describing? I'm not sure that I would if I hadn't seen it myself.
Thanks for any help you can offer.

Edited by: Frankku on 13/08/2005 10:26:00 I'm having the same problem, and i have 6800 gt too. However it was not always like this with this card, but i don't remember if this problem came with nvidia driver or eve-patch. Nvidia has released new drivers, Version: 77.77, Release Date: August 11, 2005. I haven't yet tested if this fixes the problem.. What driver version you have? I'm guessing that it's nvidia driver problem; when i have for example browser over the eve window, eve "freezes". But if i right-click on the title of the browser window to get the pulldown menu where you can minimize the window etc, suddenly the eve window behind the browser window comes alive again. --- Your Miner II perfectly strikes Veldspar, wrecking for 1620 ore. |

Yeah, same thing with the pull down menus bringing it back to life. I'm using the 77.77 drivers, so they don't help. Very strange.

I rolled the drivers back to 66.93 and they don't have this problem. It must be something to do with the newer drivers.

probably a rendering "optimization" to allow the cards to render faster whatevers in the active window. I can see how it could be usefulll in a multitasking environment, but if your looking for something thats active in a back window it would be a real pain. Im betting that thers an option to turn it off somewhere in the display properties.

Not that I could find. I figured it was something like that, but no where was there an option to turn it on or off.

9700 Pro here, and windowed works fine--I quite often play EVE while watching an anime on the side, or reading the forums, or anything--and it doesn't stop showing. -- Proud member of the [23].

6800GT here, this happens to me too. I hoped maybe I could type into a Wordpad document while looking at the game screen behind it, but it makes all sorts of problems. Anymore I just take screenshots, minimize the game, pull up the screenshot and do whatever typing I need to do.
