Hi, I'm new to the game (about 1 month in now)... a few days ago I got my battlecruiser and have started doing some level 3 combat missions. I'm very happy with the Caldari battlecruiser.. she's nice and tough and I'm doing great with it.
My question is, can the tech 2 ships like the Harpy or Hawk (which cost about the same as a caldari battlecruiser) perform in level 3 combat missions about as effectively as a battlecruiser? By that, I mean will they be turned to dust easily, or can the tech 2 ships survive comfortably in level 3 missions?
I ask because I am considering studying skills soon to get tech 2 ships.. but I want to know if they'll survive as well as my battlecruiser.... as an example, I've done about 14 level 3 combat missions and have yet to get my shields knocked below 50% yet.... can I expect this as well from a Hawk or Harpy? I imagine the hawk and harpy wont kill as quickly of course, but that's ok.. I guess I'd just perhaps like to have a slightly speedier ship to fly with :)
Thanks for any info.

A harpy can but you probibly need a few more skills to get it done as efficiently. If you really want to fly theough missions i think HAC are the best bet.

You will need a lot of skillpoints invested in a lot of areas to make a harpy perform close to your current ferox.
Simply put, the ferox is more durable because it is so much bigger.
However, to get into a harpy you need skills like engineering V and mechanic V which also make you more effective in the ferox.
Because of this, training for an assault friggie is always a good idea sooner rather than later imo.

Ah, thanks for the tips.... one question though.. what advantages are there in the assault cruisers? I keep looking at the caldari one's and they need far more skills to use, cost more but from as far as I can see, arent really any tougher than my ferox...
Am I misreading it or something? I can't see their advantage :(

The uber armour resists (80%,70%,60%,10% or something) and the fact HACs have 4 bonusses instead of 2 are the main ones.

Generally, the Caldari Assault Cruisers are considered quite weak (compared to other race's at least). If you're just doing missions you're probably better off sticking with the Ferox (as the time investment for HACs is huge). ---------------------------

basically its there base armour/shield resists, but again the caldari HAC kind of suck since they are both long range ships and do feable damage compaired to the others.
The Diemos or Zealot on the other hand are hard hitters, i imagine they would have no problems on a lvl3 mission. Im not sure about the matari ones, i think they are pretty decent and insanely fast even if they look like they are strung together with sellotape

Edited by: Silvero on 15/08/2005 10:14:15 Bradwen: While making does long tech II ship skills, iŠll think you should test this fitting makes the ferox hard as nails. If you can fit the extender tech II that is :-)
HI: launchers MED: 1xsmall gisti shiled booster, 1xEM hardner, 3xLarge shield extender tech II LOW: DMG mods
This makes the Ferox slow but the size of the shield when applying the shield extenders is amazing. The shield recharge rate and the small gisti is equal to a medium II shield booster for almost no CAP. And the DMG mods makes you hit much harder.

WTB Ferox with the CPU and Grid needed to fit this setup.

id stick with youre battlecruiser and focus on the skills that will improve its performance. Ie less CPU - more shields (perhaps tatical shield manipulation as well)

Tactical Shield Manipulation I is all you really need, especially if you are running a shield extender setup -- once you get to 20% shield it's time to leave, so there's really no time to start taking armor damage (you'll still have 1000-2000 shield).

I'd just go Battlecruiser till you get into a Battlleship.
Sure, it costs a lot more, but it's got another high/med and low slot, higher starting armor/shields.

Thanks folks, I'll stick to my trusty Ferox then :) I love the look of it anyway and certainly can't find any complaints or flaws with it :)
Looking forward also one day to a battleship to try out those huge missiles :)

Contrary to popular opinion voiced in this thread only...the Caldari HACs are anything BUT weak.
Last night, in front of witnesses, I shield tanked multiple Serpentis Megathrons successfully in a Cerberus at closer than 2k orbiting range in a level 4 mission....3 'throns in the first group, and 4 in the second group minutes later.
Keep one thing in mind when outfitting a ship.....the important part is NOT so much what ship you use, but what SETUP you're using on that ship.

I'd say a skilled pilot in any HAC who really understands how to set it up and use it won't have any problem handling level 3 missions, even in Caldari HACs. It's just getting to the point that you know what you're doing that can be expensive, or not, depending on which ship. Some are easier to use right away, like the Deimos, others take some practice, like the Eagle.
