Looking at sisi looks like u will get 4000 shots out of each laser cystal (weapons) before they become worn out and need replacing good idea CCP lets have a skill that boosts shots per level by 2-5% though
A good idea for those of us trying to sell laser cystals they will raise demand good call CCP

mining cyrstals have been like this for some time ie they degrade until they stop working. Now laser weapon cyrstals are going to be doing the same approx 4000 shots then they vanish and need replacing.

This might be a good reason for me to leave this game, more than a year ago, i decided to train and specialize on lasers because of that advantage, you pay a lot for the crystals, but then they last forever. The main reason why i choosed lasers, going to disapear?
CCP should get some sense on their heads and realize, some things CANT change. I mean, com'on, 4000 shots, thats so litle... And what is this non sense about reasing crystal demand? You loose all your crystals when you loose your ship, if it is often, you will be paying a lot more for ammo than other turret BS, if you rarely use it, you will, after some time, be paying a lot less than other ships, its an investment, and it is something the amarrians have had, since, the launch of tranquility???

I am in the same boat, been struggling to play this game for a while now, and i think this would be the final straw. (NO YOU CANNOT HAVE MY STUFF)

Why? 4k shots put in about inline with hybrid charges in the ammount of 4k. Except, you only need m^3.

I think laser ammo is fine as it is, and that this is a needless change. All the guns and even missiles are starting to become far too similar for my liking.
And besides, didn't CCP nerf lasers ammo last patch anyway?! |

Difference is you only need so much ammo to replenish ALL your guns. An Apoc pilot will now need a full rack of another set of crystals to have enough for a single reload... now you do the maths.

I hope the crystals get cheaper, and theyre better be a little counter for crystal health.
I also envision scams a plenty with 1% health crystals on the escrow etc... but they wouldnt do that... would they ? Would be nice if they can be repaired, maybe with a little mineral infusion or something.

now can we have a reduction in laser turret capacitor use to balance the fact we have to use ammo now, and also apocs bonuses to change from 10%/lvl cap usage of lasers to something usefull like 5% damage bonus.
If laser uses have to use ammo now, its only fair they also use a fair ammount of capacitor, i mean calari and minmater have cap free guns, why should lasers use the most cap, ammunition, and do poor damage other than using a ganked out geddon mmkay cheers ta.
Edit: Also they need to fix the crystal reloading bug, so annoying when switching ammo types only half your turrets reload.

laser cystals will take up some cargo space. Perhaps reducing the cargo requirements by 20% or the other option is more players will lay sec cans and store excess crystals in there

Joe Hybrid user can junk all his projectile/missile ammo and make it into hybrid charges fairly easily.
However, Joe laser user can not to the same thing, because even cruiser lenses use minerals not found in the other ammo types ( zydrine and megacyte )
Also, because of the fact that they use zyd/mega, now that lenses have become a commodity, they are going to be tied closely to the volatility of the markets.
If there is a war in certain sectors of space, the price of lenses might double or triple overnight.
To be honest, it really wouldnt bother me much if lenses became more 'ammo' like. However, they really need to change their mineral composotion or its entirely unfair to amarr.

I have the same bug but I use Hybrids.

well not really do some amarr constructions agent missions u get like 50 medium dual pulse lasers as rewards on level 3 - and they melt down to 30-50 mega or zyd - dont forget zyd in jaspet and hemo. So easier to get.
Not really an issue - though will encourage more laser crystal manufacture. Lets see tech 2 BPOs dropped a bit more could be issues there.
Though dark blood drops ie factional laser cystals will now become less valuable (reasonable thing)

3k a shot, that is pretty awesome.
Lasers have always had Voltility listed. It just didn't work by bug or forces of power. It is kind of stupid that you are whining about CCP fixing something that has been broken for ages.

After 4k shots from each crystal in each turret using only 1m^3 space. I can only hold 6250 shots in my hold for all my guns which pretty much leaves choosing what range ammo to use on large ships out of question. So kindly bugger off.

How about you introduce fact in to your post?
CCP decided not to degrade tech1 crystals, stating at the time that tech2 crystals would degrade. Just because the stat is there does not mean it was meant to work, it was just something they were toying with. ______________________________________________

If the devs had any sense they'd tie in the rate of crystal degredation to the relative power of weapon that it was used in - crystals used in mega beams would degrade faster than erm, those used in dual heavies, for example.
Can they be repaired in-station?

If this makes it into the deployed patch, there is one thing that is fairly certain: the price of crystals will change.
On the one hand, demand will increase - people will be going through more crystals. This could make prices rise. But on the other hand, there might actually be an incentive for more people to manufacture crystals. If the price is right, supply will rise and keep prices low.
I'm at work at the moment, so I can't check real-world pricing. But comparing the base prices in the item database suggests that a 4000-shot medium laser crystal is still a better buy than 4000 medium projectile rounds.

hmmm tough choice now wether to train amaar cruiser 5 while I'm away or gallente battleship 5, no point training for amaar when my only reason was the lack of crystal degrade.
