Hello everyone.
Are you guys as frustrated with drones as I am. I must have the stupid drone bpc for all heavy drones, at ME15 even.
Here's my gripe:
I tell my 9 heavy drones to attack a BS, they go and do a good job on the first BS then after it pops, they scurry off and frolic around like mindless idiotic puppies. They are screaming fast to go attack a building or something stupid while there are still ships shooting at me.
Ok, fine, I tell them to attack a different ship. WOW, they are truly moronic, only 4 react to the command and the other 5 goof offs move at 20 m/s OR decide they don't want to put in the effort and return to attacking an asteroid or something equally retarded.
GAH!!@!!!#$@#$ at this point I could strangle one of them with my bear hands. I even targeted one and blew it up as an example to the others, but it didn't help. STUPID DRONES!!!.
Why can't drones just do what i tell them to do and move at the speed they are supposed to!!!!

yes, shooting your drones will help. I haven't had issues with drones not attacking when I tell them to, but try to make sure your target is in range. That's probably the reason why some of your drones didn't do anything, you let them get out of range. You'll note that when drones are idle, they don't move. Funny that. If they aren't being responsive when you tell a group to do something 1) chances are you selected the wrong group, but 2) try indiviudally controlling the renegades. --------------

Remember that drones attack what you have last clicked on, NOT TARGETED. Imagine my surprise when I went through the same thing you did, where I had clearly targeted a series of ships and had one with the little swirly triangle things spinning around the target icon - but I had inadvertently clicked in space somewhere else and had a part of a complex selected in my overview Selected Item window. When I told my drones to attack, they went over there to beat on a useless building.
Silly, but now that I know about it I'm more careful. Maybe that's what happened to you?

Edited by: Fong Shi on 15/08/2005 18:38:06 I appreciate the feed back guys, but you have to read carefully. 4 of the 5 drones responded to the command. The others were, lets say, rebellious.
I had 6 ships targeted at the time, after one went boom, I click on the nearest target and opened up on it, it was around 30km away. My max control range is 45km with L5 scout skills.
I noticed my drones acting like idiots and told them to attack. 4 jumped all over the target, the other 5 sorta just did nothing. Sort of like asking a lazy teenager to mow the lawn. After a lot of screaming, it gets done very v e r y slowly.
They were actually moving slower them the top speed of my BS. Then after about 60 seconds they ****ed off and started in on a building or each one would attack a different ship (which is useless).
I felt that the NPC rats where making fun of me because i couldn't get the drones to behave. How embarrassing.
I tell you, if it were not for the fact I have to spend money to make them, there would be a lot more ôExamplesö of drone execution out there.
edit: lol, i did actualy try individual control. The only thing they could do at the right speed was return and orbit. I ended up shooting at them anyway.

This issue is only with heavy drones, wierd how they intermittantly decide to not return to orbit and all that other fun stuff. Mostly they **** me off because they are so difficult to scoop. Lights and Meds have no problems whatsoever.

yupp, drones are broken. and there are a ton of threads about it. really annoying and i've never seen CPP give any answer on the problem in any of hte threads and they don't answer petitions eather.
i belive someon sent me those drones just to **** me of... like last day(well, kinda like everyday): was me, a BS rat, som structures in the complex... i was flying towards the bs firing at it, it was targeted and marked, i tell the drones to attack, note that the rat was ~20km away and my range atm and in the apoc is 40km for the drones. th drones starts charging the target... ohhh... ohhh.. ohh... na... "wait a minute look at that building guys! ya let's go attack that one insteed! ya! super idÚa!" -> drones change direction...

You should treat your drones with the love and respect they deserve, talk to them, give em a hug now and then, give them some privacy when 2 of them start enjoying each others company beyond your standard drone-drone friendship. Let them meet other drones, couped up with 9 other hammerheads doesn't a happy hammerhead make.
And all your problems will go away. K maybe they won't but atleast you wheren't a bloody tirant. Shooting those poor drones just cause they didn't feel like listening to your tiranical nasty orders. You should be ashamed of yourself. ~{When evil and strange get together anything is possible}~ A tool is only useless when you don't know how to use it. - ActiveX The grass is always greener on the other side. - JoCool |

This sounds like we need a new skill to control even more drones, My Dominix can hold 34 combats, I say a skill to control up to 30 drones would be great, imagine trying to return to orbit/ and scoop 30 drones.
The extra time would drive me mad, I hate to leave them roamining aimlessly about but...
Faulty testing kept me from delivering the "Logic Editor" earlier.
I was using my own post and it kept blanking everything out.

hahah, that's a good one. Made me chuckle. But on a serious note, it makes me feel better to shoot them.
I'd be more open to inter drone relations, but i think that's part of the problem right now. The heavy drone gene pool must be very shallow. I don't want to contribute too it. I am fully against brother + sister heavy drone relations. However, considering their lack intellegence, it is fully possible that it's more like Sister+Sister or the other way.

The most annoying bit about drones is when you have a mixture of sizes flying and order them to return and orbit.
Some happily do as they are told while the smaller ones lurk just outside scooping range so you have to scoop them individually which prevents you from scooping them all. -------------------------------------------------- "Your bullets cannot harm me, my wings are like a shieeeeeeeeeld of steeeeel!!!" |
