Edited by: Something Random on 17/08/2005 10:46:35 I just got this card to quickly replace my 5900 ultra 256mb that went kaboom last week... but eve just keeps crashing no matter what settings i use for graphics, windowed and fullscreen. First that happens is an occasional glitch on the screen after logging in, then @5mins after its just a freeze then the whole computer restarts.
Im using 77.72 drivers from the nvidia site, ive seen a few posts about glitches and some people say its overheating... well no it isnt, the card reaches 71 degrees which is well within tolerance, my psu is 400 watt and besides the other game i play UT2K4 demo is fine so it isnt the card/heat stress or anything other than something in eve causing it.
Anyone got an idea or had the same problem and cured it ?
You just dont know what the last 2 weeks have been like, how long is this gonna go on !!!!
edit : I have downloaded the full client and reinstalled already... no joy. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Try upgrading the chipset drivers for your motherboard.

sounds like what would happen to me when I had win2000 installed on my crappy ass crappiest pos motherboard with crappy ass chipset. I installed win98 (since eve only machine) and it has been fine. --- I agree with everything Howard Dean says. |

Well, rolled back the driver to earliest that accepted my card... was like a rave in the eve login box... found the absolute latest beta driver 80.40, seemed almost ok flickered once, didnt crash the machine then i alt tabbed out and back in again - lo the rave had begun and i got my funky thang going, popped a pill and everything... i needed that paracetomol.
Even checked for sure my chipset drivers were up to date.
Cards going back tomorrow, 6800GT ordered in its place.
Watch out peeps for the 6600GT it doesnt seem to like eve very much at all.
Win98 is best left where it is, im using WinXP now after many happy years with Win2K - no probs, with anything, at all... but this of course, and its EVE not the system as the system and every other game were fine, just EVE is fudged.

I very much doubt the 6600 GT is the source of your problems, at least not the card itself. Maybe it was a defective card, you never know.
The funkyness you describe sounds familiar to me, dunno how though - i get it sometimes when i try to watch a movie and play eve at the same time. Maybe you got some interfering processes running?

I've just got this card and am having absolutely no problems with the latest 77.72 drivers....did you uninstall the old drivers before hand?

I know this might not be the prob, but I had a similar problem with my current card. I tried all sorts couldn't fix it, the unstable visual even extended to my ISP connection box, I found if I allowed it to throw a fit there it was then OK when I started EvE, if I didn't and rushed connection and EvE load, graphics go nuts --> hard crash reboot --> BSOD.
then...
Wife turned PC on and actually allowed "Steam" (apologies for mentioning it CCP) to connect and update. I hadn't allowed it to for ages as I got bored of HL2. From then on everytime I booted up Steam had an access violation. As I stopped playing HL2 I uninstalled it and viola..my graphics glitches have cleared.
coincidence? given a few of the people I work with's opinion of the Steam interface I'm not so sure, not gonna be re-installing it to find out tho.

Yes. Like i said, system was fine it was just eve that had the problem - i played UT2K4 Demo online for many happy hours on the card. Just EVE.
I wonder if its the SiS chipset problem still rearing its ugly head with the 6600GT... either way its gone, not arsing around anymore trying to get it to work whats the point in that - it dont work, it gets the boot and someone else gets my money, their 'bad'.

i have a 6600GT with Gigabyte motherboard and nvidia chipset, works flawlessly, except sometimes fraps is the crash me button, and fraps doesn't crash wow or any other game, just eve. --- I agree with everything Howard Dean says. |
