Kudos.
Although with every passing year, those exams become more and more worthless. Since the government decided that 50% of children should reach the "top 5% of youngsters" mark .. guess what? It doesn't qualify you for the top 5% mark any more

Tell me about it. Blair said "Education, education, education" - and now what's he saying? "Wait, this has gone a bit too well"?
Not that I want to discuss politics because that is against the forum rules. I am sticking to the topic. ------------

The current crap about the 98% pass rate, is a load of crap tbh. It not about "passing" anymore, its just on what grades you get. Eg E is a pass, its really crap, but its a pass.
Most people use A levels for uni entry, but uni's arent stupid (duh!) and dont just look at what grades you get. Hence you have to write your personal statment saying you like to help grannies cross the road etc. Also they know which are the "harder" subject and which are the easy ones, and so an A in media studies might not be as highly looked upon as a B in Physics.

It meant I had to take a foundation year at university. But now, I earn ú21,500 3-years out, in a job that I mostly love.

An E is the grade below a D. A U means "unclassified" .. the reason being, it's offensive to have such a thing as a failure. Nobody can possibly fail an exam in England; the worst that can happen is, they don't give you a result.

not sure in other countries but in uk its the follow
+70%-A
60-70%-B
50-60%-C
40-50-D
30-40-E
anything lower than 30% is classed as 'unclassified' aka U

Bear in mind, however, that how many marks will be given to a particular standard of paper, depends on how many people would pass with it. To put it bluntly, the examining boards cheat; they are basically required, under the terms of their licences, to do so. If not enough people are going to pass, that is evidence that the exams were too hard, so everyone is granted additional marks to compensate.
