Isn't this the responsibility of the game provider to take action? Of course law enforcement could take the suspect's computer and definitively prove bot programs were running.
Still, is this a slippery slope? Could we one day see alliance backstabbers arrested and charged with treason? Likely not, but it still begs the question whether law enforcement should get involved in events that happen in an MMO ----

As pointed out in the other thread on this story .. .when virtual goods acquire a definite, real-world financial value, anyone taking them from you without consent can be accused of theft.
Whether they *should* be so accused, is a whole other kettle of fish. But it's going to make things interesting. The important question here, is whether they're prosecuting simply because he was attacking other players, or because he was using a bot to do so.
If you take $5,000 into a poker game and lose it, that's your fault for gambling, and even though it's been taken against your wishes, no theft has occurred. But if the guy you were playing with cheated, then theft HAS occurred. This could be regarded the same thing; certainly, I would say it should be. If you choose to play a game which has PvP in it, and you die and lose stuff, well, it's your fault for gambling it. But if you die because of an exploit, macro, or other cheat - you may have a claim for recompense, not just in-game via GMs, but through the courts.

I checked before posting to see if anyone had already posted it and I was satisfied that nobody had. You'll note that the story I linked to is dated today at around 7am GMT and as such I checked for threads dated today with a topic suggesting the same content and found none so proceeded to create this one.

Nobody's blaming you; you should, of course, have used the forum search facility, except that we don't have one
