I'm currently running with a 3com officeconnect router and an 11g officeconnect usb wireless adapter. It's fine for surfing and downloading - but everytime I run eve, it craps out within 120 seconds (approx)
I can't tell if it's my router or the usb device. My suspicion is that the usb isn't up to the job and that I should buy a pci -> pcmcia converter and try that out with a card.
Does anyone here have any experience with this? If so, what's best for stability.

I use a NETGEAR DG834G Wireless ADSL Firewall Router connected by ethernet to my main PC with my 2nd PC connected wirelessly by a Belkin Wirless Network Card - I have my wireless router set to accept on channel 11, via G network capable cards only, with MAC ID and WEP for security.
I've got at least 3 solid concrete walls between the 2 PC's and I have no problems playing Eve from it.
However, I did used to have problems with the 2ndary PC but that was because I let Windows XP Home manage the connection - just make sure you let your network card software manage the connection and then go into Device Manager, select the network card, and change the settings to G network only, optimize for bandwidth, and a few other settings I cant remember.

I have a Linksys WRT54G and a WAG54G, WRT54G running as a wireless bridge to the WAG (not stock Linksys firmware). Eve comp is hooked up to the WRT54G with ethernet and happily goes for days without dicsonnecting from the game (well, except at downtime).
I find it much more reliable than when I was using a USB wireless adapter with the added bonus that all the work/config is done on the routers, all anything else has to do is plug in and enable DHCP.
Downside is that you need to know a little about networking and you have to shell out for 2 routers.

It's all good now .. running through 3com software rather than zero config .. plus setting the preamble to long and ensuring everything was G seems to have fixed it. TY for all the advice.
