This has probably been said already, but the Navy Megathron is very seriously gimped having the same number of midslots as the regular Megathron. This ship needs to rebalance one of the slots so instead of 4 mid and 8 low, 5 mid and 7 low is optimal. Another reason to do this is because the Megathron doesn't have a bonus to armor repair, so with an extra mid slot, shield tanking becomes a more viable option.

Dude, the Navy Mega is anything but gimped. Additional low is perfect for an armor tanked ship.

Armor tanking? What that?
For noobs these days, there's shield tank, and then there's shield tank. Thanks for the [im]balance, CCP. Standings Improvement Service https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=19454 |

The megathron shouldnt BE shield tanked. similar to how an abaddon SHOULDNT be shield tanked. or wh you dont armor-tank drakes.
their native tank is one of the two.
that being said, on an armor battleship you only need 3-4 mids. a scram, tracking comp, and 1 or 2 webs (preferably 2 for those pesky little bugs).
just saying, i prefer my lowslots |

I am gonna have to agree with Ted on that. Sheild Megathron is just kinda funny.
I'm no PvP expert, but I have heard of this thing fleets do called Remote Reps used with ships that mount armor plates. That extra low slots seems ideal for just such a setup.
I will grant that shields, especially with ASB's loose and running free, do seem to be better especially for solo and smaller gangs, but not every ship needs to be a shield tank. Agitate to fix the shield/armor thing, not warp perfectly good ships into shield ships. |

Hmm in some ways I sort of agree - I've found with mega hulls I'm always making a compromise on the mids between web, tracking computer and eccm - as 3 of those slots pretty much have to be MWD, cap booster and scram and in todays eve eccm often isn't a bad idea but then your left with BS guns and no web/TC to aid them.
EDIT: End of the day tho there is always the vindi if you want the extra mid. |

Hyperion lacks the tracking bonus per level and has lesser drone capabilities, both quite useful IMO. You also only get 6 lows v 7 or 8.
EDIT: Not to mention Hyperion loses the utility high thats useful for shoving a heavy neut into. |

Sabre my poin was that armor tank is just better on armor BS. And armor BS are generally superior to shield BS.

Again, I'm not a PvP guy... But don't the Caldari make the Rohk?
It seems if you are looking for a hybrid platform that sheild tanks, that would be the tool for the job. Otherwise, I'm thinking you are looking for something made of rust and solar panels and those ever so hurtful projectile turrets with their capless firing, selectable damage and superior range.
I have no idea why you would want to shield tank an Amarr or Gallente ship, unless it's an ASB thing, but even with ASB I have to think that a Minmatar or Caldari ship is going to be your go to ships for sheild tanked death. |

Well...
I guess I can understand that. When I was new to EVE I was doing level 3's in sheild tanked (and rigged for sheilds, before there were small & Medium rigs!!) Arbitrators and Vexxors. The damn rigs cost double what the hulls did at the time. I was an idiot...
Then I finally learned to trust my armor, got my fitting/cap/armor compensation skills up, figured out what an EANM was, and most importantly got into battleships and away from the anemic repair of medium armor repairers.
I would imagine the ASB's create the same situation. The rep is just too good, especially to be cap free. Plus there is the passive regen of the sheilds to consider as well, which always kind of irked me about armor despite my love of drones and resultant attraction to the Gallente ship line. I've always wanted a module similar to cap and power relays that would trade something for significant passive armor resist. |

well when the mega is an attack bs with 5 mids it means you can fit it for shield gank fit which compared to the rokh will be much more mobile and much higher dps that's why people would shield tank it.
And amarr plated are slow as hell which is why you would shield tank it and go for kiting which with scorch on bs can easily do 45km optimal

For the advanced pilot, there is also armor-tanking. I hear it works quite great outside of SOV-null. |

i dont wnat any changes to my buetiful girl. i like my ehp of 198k an d 1200 dps. 4 mids does for me. scram/web/MWD/heavy cap boost to keep me cap guzzling cap neut running and to recharge quickly. all in all the mega dosnt need a 5th mid. if that was included then mods to the pwr grid/cpu would need to be implented. since the fit i run leaves me with something like 3% power gird and 4% cpu left over.
