Just wondering, how does everyone feel about AFK cloaking? What I mean, people who go to an enemy system and cloak instead of logging off, then stay there until downtime. Is this a good or bad part of the game? |

I don't see it as a non-issue in null sec space. If you hang out in the same system day after day, then the first few days you might freak a few people out and get them to waste a lot of time docked. Once they figure out what you are doing and they start to ignore you, then you have a chance to get a few free kills :-) |

I see it as "Are you a coward or aren't you" - "Are you intuitive enough to adapt? Or are you a sheep to the slaughter?".
You should never feel fully safe in Null Sec, if you cannot take a loss or deal with hostility then you should probably be in high sec. Just lost a billion isk Ratting ship? How about not spending all your isk on faction modules and ratting without it.
It is a non issue - completely psychological in nature. This issue frequently gets posted, yet I have hostiles in my systems on a day-to-day basis. What do I do? I ignore them and move on with my life, if I find them - I kill them. Otherwise its business as usual. |

Sounds like a plan :-) I totally agree with you about crazy costly ratting ships. I don't see the point. You spend billions on a ship so you can rat slightly faster? |

I hate it. The sight of an unfriendly face in local is just depressing. Ever since CCP banned all my macro-ratting accounts i've actually had to start running anoms myself to make isk. How is that fair?
And now some horrible CHEATER wants to come and sit in my system so I can't even run anoms safely. I paid to rat safely in this system, it's a damn liberty that I should have to fight for it too!
And what makes it worse is that every time I petition it or make a forum thread about it, everyone just mocks me.
I think i'm going to get my mum to write a sternly worded letter to CCP to sort out this bullying once and for all... |

I am not sure what point you are trying to make. When someone is logged on, they show up in the local chat, it is as simple as that. If you do not understand how that impacts other players then I don't expect you to understand this thread. |

Thank you for bring a new and exciting topic to the forums. I think it is about time someone mentioned afk cloaks - cause it's never been discussed.
As a very wise dude said earlier - Non issue.
I have never been shot at by an afk cloaker. Have you?
How do they lock and shoot if they are cloaked and afk? Does dscan stop working in null sec?
Complaining about cloaks is pointless - people will just use very fast frigates that can burn almost off grid before probe ships land if cloaks get nerfed, you will end up dead much more often due to the alternative.
Null should be dangerous. Don't like it? High sec is for you.
Imagine if low sec players behaved like this and said: I was ratting/plexing last night with my 7 accounts Then someone appear in local - OH NOOOOOO. They are not on scan - OH NOOOOOOO. They must be ----- DOCKED - OH NOOOOOOO. They could undock at any time and get easy kills - OH NOOOOOO. If you cage a predator next to the chicken coup, you'll see the chickens go batshit at the mere presence of their nemesis. While pilots aren't caged.... they typically can't think outside the box. The AFK cloaker need not EVER uncloak to cause psychological strain on his intended victims...
Granted, that psychological strain is self-inflicted.... and the "victims" shouldn't be living in nullsec if they can't adapt! |

When someone is logged on, they show up in the local chat, it is as simple as that. If you do not understand how that impacts other players then I don't expect you to understand this thread. But the reason I asked you the question, is because I know exactly why people AFK. Cloaks are not the problem here, local is and that's the point.
It's intel is 100% risk free, unbiased, little to no effort to attain and relied upon mainly for the instant intel it gives. So how do you combat such a powerful mechanic? Even cloaks are not so covert, as you still know they are there. So people use AFKing, as a way to try and subvert local's instant intel. But even then, the balance remains on your side. You see the intel from local is guaranteed 23.5/7, whereas the psychological effects from AFKing are not.
If you want AFKing to stop, then you need to look at the cause. This isn't a chicken and egg situation, as we know which came first. But those that call for cloaks to be nerfed, tend to ignore the actual mechanic being used in this regard.
As Sean Parisi said, it's a non issue. Use local, but don't expect others to not use it against you. Malcanis for CSM 8. Destination SkillQueue:- It's like assuming the lions will ignore you in the savannah, if you're small, fat and look helpless. |

Adapting seems to be an issue for some though. They would rather blame the guy who is AFK, for stopping them playing. Malcanis for CSM 8. Destination SkillQueue:- It's like assuming the lions will ignore you in the savannah, if you're small, fat and look helpless. |

Cloaky camping a system can be done for a whole lot of reasons. I usually have toons cloaky camping systems to: - Provide me access to certain w-space whenever I want (They mainly logoffski camping actually); - Wait out the often limited attention spans of those people trying to camp / grief me; - Provide eyes on hostile titans and other movements when needed (Vary from logoffski to afk, to actively watching cloaky); - Psycho-grief people (usually afk-cloaky); - Provide tackles and cynos for our hot-drops (afk-cloaky most of the time, to build target confidence, but often looking around for targets or bookmarking sites scanned while system is empty etc, and occasionally very active).
If youGÇÖre camping a nullsec system, even a blue one, you would be well advised to be either docked, POSed-up, or cloaked. If not you will inevitably die and wakeup somewhere else, buff naked in your medclone. If youGÇÖre intent upon camping a hostile system you are not very likely to have a POS or access to their outpost (NPC null is a different thing though), so your only viable camping option is cloaked.
Some people freak out when their system is cloaky camped, some take a little extra care, and some just continue business-as-usual. Some, of course, whine and moan on the forums asking CCP to change the entire game dynamic because they cannot be bothered (or donGÇÖt have the wits) to adjust to this activity. Some suggest removing local GǪ well, hek, we got 2500 or so systems already without local. Some suggest all sorts of other GÇÿfixesGÇÖ for a normal game mechanic that is not, IMHO, at all broken.
TLDR: Cloaky camping, afk or active, is legitimate use of normal game dynamics GǪ and can be fun.
We can build and sell pretty much every ship. Check my bio for details. Our pirate epic arc completion packages really are very good: https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=12973&find=unread |
