Hello all. I'm a total newb to the game, but understand that cloaking technology is available to ships. Are ships that are able to use this tech. any good, and what are they primarily used for (i.e. scouting, battle, etc) Is it worth it to train to use that technology and can the ships still have weapons? Thanks bigtime. Solvo

You need Electronics to level 5 before you can start learning the Cloaking skill. Cloaking Devices can be fitted to any ship with enough CPU, but will prevent your ship from:
Locking targets Activating modules Warping Running at full speed (90%-75% reduction, depending on the model of Cloaking Device fitted) Obtaining full locking time
The exception to this is the Covert Ops Cloak, which can only be fitted to a Covert Ops frigate. This can warp whiled cloaked and recieves no speed or locking penalty.
If any objects or ships come within 2500m of your ship while cloaked, it will deactivate and will not be able to recloak for 30 seconds. Effectively, the only thing that the standard Cloaking Devices are good for is hiding once you've escaped from any potential aggressors. If an enemy sees your ship cloaking nearby, unless you're in a Covert Ops which can warp away, you'll be caught, as they'll just need to fly within 2500m of your last known location. With such a drastic speed penalty, there's no way you'll be able to get out of the way in time. If you plan on learning to use Cloaking Devices, you're best off going all the way to learn Covert Ops frigates to make full use of the technology.

They are very usefull in PVP aswell as covert ops can sneak up to the enemy and then everyone else can warp to them and engage the enemy at close range.

Covert Ops cloak does have a recalibration delay... is that what you meant?
