I'm looking to invest and I'm unsure of the best way to do it. After reading the MD forum for the last 7 days I've come to the conclusion that at least some (I stress some) people are knowledgeable. I'm looking to invest 400-700mil isk in some form of market-y nonsense. I'm aware of scammers and I realize it's risky.
Could I get a few thoughts on what are some ways to do that? As I earn some interest on my money paid I will begin investing more. The current 400-700mil amount appears to be nothing compared to the billions other people can afford to invest, but I would enjoy getting started with what I can afford to risk.
Just a non market man looking to learn and glean information. |

Don't invest in other players. Invest in goods on the market. You will get a much higher return.
In here the bonds and IPOs you see are mostly just role-play and scammers.
start station trading, or trading between regions. |

Very helpful information, thank you. Since this is the MD forum I suppose I would be remiss without asking a few more market questions.
If I engage in station trading, where do I purchase the items then sell? Surely I cannot buy an item from station buy orders and then turn around and expect to put up another order for more than the ones I bought? Do I haul it somewhere else presumably?
My other question is are there any helpful websites or apps that's keep up with market prices and fluctuations? (Also is there a way to determine quantity of items sold in certain areas? Or is that not attainable information to players?)
Thanks again, I'm sure my lack of knowledge in the market arena is staggeringly obvious at the moment. |

Station trading is, by definition, undertaken in the very same station. You put up buy orders then re-list what you get as sell orders. Of course not every item will have enough of a buy-sell spread to make that do-able, but just read the tutorial Mari posted to get an idea of what you want to look for, then get to it.
In terms of actual stations to trade in, most stick to the major hubs: Jita, Ammar, Dodixie, Rens and Hek. Avoid Jita for now though, too many big fish.
You're right that you can also haul, taking advantage of price variations in different hubs, but that's a little different from station trading. If you check the sticky at the top of the MD forum there's a link to a lot of market resources and tutorials that go into more detail if you want.
And don't worry about it. We all started somewhere! Aurora Investments is looking for an alliance to call home |

Ah thank you for clarifying my ignorance. I made the assumption that I would be purchasing via the buy orders a d then setting up another buy order for more. This makes perfect sense, thank you all for the info! |

If you just started, then you should really consider station trading. Much better ROI for your hard earned ISK. So do what the guys above said.
If you station trade in Jita for example and you don't know yet all the scams that occur in the area, better to just ignore the Local chat. Also I get lots of mail from scammers. Ignore any mail that offers you to buy stuff and it looks to good to be true. You can check any item scammers offer you by right click and view market price. You will understand the scam then.
But, since no one answered to your question, I will take the liberty of doing it.
Do not bother with investing, loans and such until you have at least a 5 bil / month income (read: profit). Presuming you are not spending that cash on time, nerves and ISK consuming activities like PvP, you can start looking to invest around 1 bil / month in loans.
Never invest what you can't afford to lose! For example I try to keep my investments at round 15% of my monthly income. So if I get scammed on all my investments, I just lose like 4-5 days of making money. Not a big deal if you ask me.
Do not bother with collaterised investments, the return is terrible ( 2% month usually). In order to check as best as you can a player that offers uncollaterised investment ask for his API. Then chat with him in the game. Ask him questions that can be easily checked within the API and make connections among the numbers there.
If you want more details on how to check these players, let me know and I will help you.
Good luck in your endeavors !
