If Kali were to have an graphic overall of the game, like when Shiva...I mean Exodus added a couple extra effects, what graphics and special effects do you think they should add, change, and/or get rid of?
I think they should add: +Battledamage. +New projectile and rail gun effects that look like they are shotting ammo. +Bigger and cooler muzzle fire from guns.

or sit in awe when you can see it in all its wunder. we don't all use crap PCs.
also, i doubt they'd remove the goold ole ctrl+alt+shift+E/T options, so those of you who can't run with high spec, don't have to. ~-~
Try to look unimportant, they may be low on ammo. |

Harsh but true :) eve is very cpu and graphic card dependant, so with a good, new and most probably expensive cpu and graphic card you will have a lot less lag.

how about a re-optimisation of the graphics so it doesn't lag so bad. I read someware that was in the works due to the graphic engine being dated now.

This.
Even if they don't get to all of them they MUST at least do the apoc, ugh, the textures on that thing are gross when you look up close. -------

How about the posibility of setting up an alternative graphics setting with the single press of a button. That way one can run with all the nice bits on during normal gameplay and when graphics lag due to combat starts, one press and everything gets toned down to an alternate setting.
Afterwards, one press and every thing is back to looking nice.

I think they need to drop the texture res and do 'elite style' vector graphics. Maybe optionally. So when I get jerkovision, I can turn everything down to low res, and still actually have a chance of fighting.

I vote for wireframe. Less graphics, more gameplay!

Hi res textures would be the bomb, fixing fighting textures on stations would be nice with some more bump mapping to enhance them a tad more and a fix for the ferox when it unclokes...wonder if that still happens with the omen too.

i hate when people call their PC failing lag, i think as EVE players we should call server latency issues Lag but change crap PC 'lag' into CPL for Crap PC Lag.
so we can finally say, thats not lag thats CPL you cheapskate >_<

Edited by: Oltul Tepes on 03/09/2005 21:22:25 Sure there are other aspects of the game that need work and CCP will address everything as they see fit but heads up CCP, EVE-Online needs some love on the Gfx front big time.
The recommended system specs for optimal performance as it is now is a "P.O.S. PC" never mind the minimal.
EVE recommended system specs for optimal performance: Processor: P4 1GHz+ RAM Memory: 256MB or higher 3D Accelerator: 64MB or higher video card
Thats a pretty old box these days, most gamers will have plenty more than that! even I do and I'm long overdue an upgrade.

Listen up noobs:
Lag = internet connection problems, like information taking too long to reach your computer.
Lag IS not low frame rate or game brakes, that is mostly caused by inferior hardware.
When your in a fleet battle and it takes 5 minutos to load, its probably your hardware, its a lot of information that your ram, cpu and gpu have to work on. When your in a fleet battle and you receive a death mail and your still flying your ship, thats lag.
Better graphics DO NOT lag, Graphics are in your computer, not in server (well, most of them at least), there is no diference betwen serving telling your computer "Target in your front is x ship with z y weapons; and Target in your front is X ship (with higher texture) with Z Y Weapons (with higher 3d detail)!!
Correct me if im wrong!

In fleet battles, a third type of lag happens--server lag. The server cannot process information fast enough, creating lag.
Add on the fact that a quad opteron system with 4 gigs of RAM would have trouble displaying most fleet battles faster than 10 FPS, and you've got a recipe for disaster. -- Proud member of the [23].

hi i have no clue!
serlag in fleet is when server has to send 200 ppl new packets every time some jumps in, and sending the update to the ones already there so 200 man jumps on 200 = LOADS server packets needing sending in short time.
and they are adding plante asmopare in kali

Edited by: Chade Malloy on 03/09/2005 23:36:59 As Oveur already stated, most lag issues as of today are caused by old core-code, which is not that easy to change.
For example the massive lag that occurs if a fleet of 20+ ships fires on a station happens because the stations dont have located "impact points" for the gunfire and have to use cpu intensive backup processes that create lag. Same goes for multiple weapon impacts on the same spot in a short time, it causes the client to "hiccup".
All of this and more are subject to improve in kali patch, god bless the dev team ;)
Maybe we even get some of the old "eye-catching" effects back, like the armor-repair glow and such...
I¦m not crazy, i just have another consciousness in my mind! |

I'd like to know what CCP is going to do with Longhorn(Vista) ships with WGF 2.0. Considering theres going to be a big break in support for older systems. It'll pull up the baseline tremendously. Will be nice to see how CCP designs for that engine

optional higher detail for higher end systems less for lower end systems. Still other optimisations are being done for kali so perhaps they can do little tweaks and upgrades then go for a big graphic upgrade mid 2006
