So, I'll be setting up my POS (medium tower) this week. I'll be setting up in a .7 system that gets about 2,000 jumps a day.
My question is for you people who own a high-sec POS, how often do you get war-dec, and should I be worried about it happening often in a system that gets about 2,000 jumps a day?
Thanks |

IN high sec, the biggest ship that can attack your POS is a battleship. A well armed pos, usually discourages wardecs. Just put a lot of offline guns and hardeners and stuff and you will be fine. The tears of the many, outweight the tears of the few. Or the one. enterprise-psi-¬

My alt corp with a POS has never been wardecced, and even if it did the tower is just a small tower so the most i would lose is just the labs. Granted I am in a more backwoods system, but the big thing is don't **** anyone off and look inactive and most people won't even bother with deccing you. Especially with a medium as they are a bit harder to take down if they are online and strontiumed. I once podded myself by blowing a huge fart. |

I think we average a wardec every 6 months. There have been 26,000 jumps in the past 24 hours, so it is a busy system.
In my 4 years there have been 2 wardecs that threatened a POS. Both wardecs were retracted when we showed-up to defend. One of them was by a corp that specializes in killing POSes, and I was 100% convinced we were going to lose ours, so we all just decided to throw ourselves into the war, have some fun, and see what happened. The war lasted about an hour, ending when their scout spotted our small rag-tag fleet. The second war ended when the aggressor saw me onlining defenses.
Nearly every character in our corp is a trained POS gunner. We used to live in w-space, where getting podded would remove the character from the system, and they probably wouldn't be able to return, so we had to have redundancy in case of mishaps. We also have neutral hauler alts than can deliver fuel if the war is protracted.
I recommend you do not anchor more than you are prepared to lose, and that you have some sort of plan for defense, even if it isn't a flawless plan. |

I go with ECM on my POSes. I've yet to get a Wardec (though I'm not set up in "prime" real estate, necessarily.)
Basically telling everyone: "You may not lose your ship shooting this thing down, but you will lose your mind."
A Large Caldari POS can, after evening out the resists with 5 hardeners, fit 80 ECM batteries.
But really, just don't be the easiest looking POS in the system and you'll probably be fine. This is EVE - Everybody Versus Everybody.

I suggest large tower. Has a lot more HP to discourage the appetite of POS bashers. With guns, ECM ja hardeners ofcourse. EVE-Cost is a manufacturing tool for EVE players. http://www.eve-cost.eu |

Also pick a system with plenty of free moons, if there's no free moons then people will want your little bit of real estate, if the neighbourhood is half unoccupied then if people want to anchor their own pos then they can without the hassles of wardeccing a corp.

You have 24 hours warning to take the POS down.
Also, just fill it with ECM modules for discouragement if you want. There is much to be said in favour of modern journalism. By giving us the opinions of the uneducated, it keeps us in touch with the ignorance of the community.-á-á-á-á - Oscar Wilde |

a small undefended tower belonging to a 1-man corp with lots of labs and no station system is about as appealing a target as you can get.
You'll probably discourage quite a few attackers just by having a station in system and naming the labs "BPOS IN STATION"
Also, there is currently no limit to the number of defensive modules that can be anchored. Defensive modules are cheap and onlining them takes only a few minutes. This is rather exploitable, in that a medium pos with 2 gunners can foil a sizable attacking force by continually onlining guns/ecm as others are incapacitated. If you combine this with carefully examining their gang setup and not being completely incompetent, you can fight off a well-organized gang. This strategy only fails if they have overwhelming force capable of shrugging off all of your defenses while shooting the tower.
Once had a pretty epic battle where we brought about a dozen close-range armor BS and 4 logi vs medium tower with a few defenders. We slow-boated around the pos for about 2 hours incapacitating modules while they continually anchored and onlined defenses at various places around the pos. After about 35 modules, we weren't making any progress, so we slowboated 200km out of point range of teh tower and withdrew. If they'd had a few more snipers to harass us, or had been more intelligent in their choice of modules and gunnery targets (too many redundant warp scrams online), we would have had no chance. Thanks In three years I never got war decced, in a system with even higher traffic.
the are a few keys to keeping your self from becoming a target.
A research POS must be in a system with at least one station, and you must have an office in one of those stations.
Why?
Well say for example there is a corp that makes there living off high sec war decs. They come across a medium POS with 6 mobile labs anchored and online, even if it is well defended that is a lot of research going on, an most likely high end research to make the cost of the POS worthwhile.
Now they do some checking and that corp does not have an office in the system. Or even worse there is no station in system to have an office in. What does this mean to the warmongers? Well no office means no corporate hanger in a local station, which in turn means any BPO's being researched, or copied are actually in the POS lab arrays. That POS is a loot pinata, and well worth a war dec to get a chance at that loot. There could and likely is billions of isk worth of BPO's sitting there.
The moral of the story is, having a office in a local station gives you a corporate hanger in station. This allows you to keep all your BPO's safe from getting looted. A POS containing no BPO's is not worth Bashing, and thus the corp that owns it is relatively safe from ward decs.
Do not make yourself a target, and you will not get war deced. POS defenses are not a sufficient deterrent. Foir example if there are two POSes, one is a deaths tar with maxed defenses, the other is a plain POS with nothing but a shield hardener or two. But the deathstar POS has labs full of BPO's and the plain POS has all BPO's safe in a corp hanger in station. Which is more likely to get attacked? Well the deathstar is the loot pinata, so unless it has a decent size fleet to defend it aside for its defense modules it will be the first one to go down.
Not making yourself a target also means not making enemies. Do not post will characters who use that POS on the forums. If someone on the forums disagrees with you, or sees you as an easy target, they may seek you out in game leading to a war dec. Do not haul gank worthy loads to and from your POS, you never know who is watching. If you haul high value loads in and out of your POS then chances are anyone watching will think the stuff sitting in you POS is worth much much more. it probably is, so do not advertise that fact. You do not want anyone to even think you POS might be a loot pinata. If you have a PVP character, if possible, do not have them in the same corp as the research POS this can attract unwanted attention. |

It is very unlikely you will get attacked simply for having a POS up. The wardec will be a byproduct of something else. Naturally when a wardec occurs you will need to worry about the well being of your tower, which simply means tearing the tower down for the time being. This is why it is a good idea to keep research runs short and not do 30+ day runs when it is not necessary.
Unless you have a large control tower with 10 Hyasyoda Mobile Laboratories up or do make it obvious that there is alot of valuable objects in your POS (don't keep a corp hangar in your POS for example) the time it would take to destroy wont be worth someones time unless you made them angry.
