What a decade it has been. The stories from EVE are countless and the people who know them best are the people who created them, the people who lived them. You.
We are reaching out for your help in conserving and bringing to life the greatest stories of EVE's first decade and to make it more exciting there's potential for great prestige and amazing prizes...but for more information you have to read the new dev blog by CCP Torfifrans. This actually excites me quite a bit. It was stories from eve that ultimately got me playing. The most awesome thing about eve is that there ARE such stories to talk about and that in game events more or less count toward the overall story. |

I approve of this focus on player driven content. The story of Eve is not how Empress Jamyl had a coronation or how the Jove routed the Amarr fleet and enabled Minmatar independence or how an admiral crashed his Nyx into a station. The story of Eve is the one we create by undocking and shooting people (or in some cases, opening up the corp hangar and stealing/disbanding everything, or logging in to the forums and posting). Titans were never meant to be "cost effective", its a huge ****.-á- CCP Oveur, 2006

Happy you like it guys, we're really excited to see what stories emerge. The fact that these can inspire books, comics, films or TV series is rather mind-blowing to a lot of us. |

There's a part of me that views the idea of EVE TV shows or films with a sense of trepidation - TV/film tie-ins with games are almost universally terrible. Please don't do this unless you're absolutely certain it isn't going to suck! Titans were never meant to be "cost effective", its a huge ****.-á- CCP Oveur, 2006

Sounds great! EVE did produce some fantastic stories over its time, when they find a talented writer this has serious potential to be very entertaining. So... i started an industry blog at www.derbk.com/eve . Updated almost thrice a year! Also, i am prettier than Saskia. True story. But don't tell her, little princess is sensitive.

I don't have much of an in-game tale to tell, as I've spent most of my Eve life making up a couple instead.
I'm officially registering my interest in any possible involvement with the creative writing process, if you'll consider it. I do enjoy telling stories in the universe of Eve Online, and I've a bit of a track record in this area I'd drop everything to get involved with the stories of these reprobate piratical carebears

Epic player content mining.
I have wanted something like this for long time.
Now I have no Idea what story to tell, where to start or end?!
I think I will opt out of it, and just share a link to something related I am working on..

I think it would be a potential viable idea to consider decade legacy accounts. Making them free. I am sure most would just invest in a second or more account or be more willing to buy other things from CCP.
OFC I am biased, but I think that stats would agree.

Mildly annoyed that the story board appears to exclude fan-fiction. Even when it pertains to something like how you started your character....
"The story has to be true. It has to have happened in EVE." - Submit Story page, Plot Summary "hint text"
I understand why they want 'legit stories'. But seriously if we made a text file out of all the battles and crap players do it would sound horrible.
You need to put that "Hollywood Spin" on stories or people aren't going to give a **** about them.
Do you want to read about how GoonSwarm fleet blobbed some other alliance?
-or
Quote:GoonSwarm amassed outside the [insert system] Jump Bridge. And primed for jump. Intel had suggested the [insert enemy alliance] had [a ship-by-ship break down of the blob]. But intel can be misleading.
The titans' JDs spun up as Operation Start approached. "Drive Lighning" arced across their hauls as the drives reached full charge.
The operation is go!
...have you ever been catapulted from a dead stop several light years?
The GS were known for bringing overwhelming numbers to a fight. But even this was a sight. [insert ship-by-ship break down of GS blob]. Streaked into system. Their turrets already deploying and TCs locking on.
By adding some finesse you make the same situation sound interesting.
So how interesting is it to listen to a play-by-play of how I made this character slowly trained up. Got better ships. Got blown up some. Was present during some of the Expansions' 'Event' peaks (ie Incursions, but not "THE Incursion" [think the recent Dust Event with the titan])

Dyner: I didn't see anything in the rules that prevented one from giving it a creative writing gloss. The devblog specifically mentions [paraphrase] "stories of real EVE players set 20,000 years in the future" -- which to me implies there is expected to take the events and put them in the in world context versus, "so, I sat down with a Mountain Dew, logged in and...". I suppose nothing would stop you from doing that either, if you had a good spin on it.
I think they simply mean the core it is based on has to be based on an actual event ingame, meta game whatever and not just a purely speculative/invented scenario |

EveTV, hmm rings a bell, like StevieSG, or maybe even Oveur. Isn't Nathan Richardsson doing another SyFy TV series
As a fan from Stargate SG1 it amazed me how it got along so well where basically the american military saved the universe. Maybe we can expect to see Icelandic team(s) instead of 'merican teams, with socio-political nerds (insert CCP names) to offset their overwhelming coolness, saving the New Eden Universe Information is Ammunition

Oh, I didn't get that impression either (regarding the Mountain Dew thing). What I mean is.
-without logging in-
About 2 years ago I jumped into a 0.3 system and was insta-locked and podded. So...how do I go about tell that. Do I say I was just cruising around for rats to kill and had some stupid bad-luck. Or do I spice it up and say I was running a mission op (not to be confused with the missions Agents give).
I was there (lul). What happened. Really did happen. But I spiced up the reason for being there....(I was just there to shoot rats).
Like I had originally typed up, but deleted after reading the "Hint Text", and going "hmm, don't want to seem like an idiot [CTRL A, DELETE]". I basically sat down, listened to: " Sascha Dikiciyan & Cris Velasco - A Hero's Legacy ". And wrote up a "little" background....and by little I mean 7 pages, or 10k-ish characters.
It glosses over my first flight in a Rifter. My death in Krirald (at the hands of my first Player Pirate podding). Leaves out the Death in Gonditsa (the 0.3 system mentioned above). "Hollywood Spins" my extremely minor involvement with Incursions (literally I did one). Suggests that my "for funsy" corp re-structured itself in the wake of the Sansha to be a military corporation.
But. 1. It spans something like five years (2006 to 2011) 2. Over-hypes my involvement in events 3. Covers up some pretty stupid moments (l2 look at numbe rof pods in one hour!) 4. IS A SUMMARY 5. EXCEEDS THE SUMMARY TEXT FIELD'S CHARACTER LIMIT. |

"Exceeds the Text field's limit" is a good point. I looked and found it strange that they didn't specify any kind of maximum length -- which is writing contest 101. So could I write something the length of Empyrean Age?
On the other side, I'm hoping their not expecting a 2-paragraph forum post entry that one just typed into the text field. |

I don't see anywhere on the "Submit Story" page where you would say attach a document.
Which is kind of stupid. I mean how are you suppose to properly vote on a story when all you have are the cliff-notes.
PS: Chribby shouldn't be allowed to post a story...he's to love-able not to win First :P |
