Greetings fellow EVE players,
I'm essentially a newbie miner/industrialist looking to get into PvP. While I understand PvP and piracy happen anywhere (especially low/null sec) I'm a little confused regarding factional warfare. I got a bunch of questions hopefully the more experienced Gallentians (sp?) will help me out with.
1) Are there specific areas where FW (for Gallente side) occurs? Like systems dedicated to this? Or is it all over the place? 2) How steep are the entry requirements? Do you need lots of tier 2 items to contribute? 3) Is it mostly fleet engagements or 1v1? Or a healthy mix? 4) Should I join a corp before going for FW? Or is it possible to "jump right in"?
Thanks in advance |

Thanks in advance You should definitely find yourself a good noob friendly corp to join that can show you the ropes.
Quantum Cats Syndicate is an excellent new player friendly option to join ;) I can't recommend them highly enough. |

1. There are many lowsec systems where pew happens and "territorial" warfare can be had. Check this out: http://evemaps.dotlan.net/map/Caldari_VS_Gallente but do keep in mind once you join FW you are at war with the other side, and they can shoot you ANYWHERE (highsec, lowsec whatever). That said, there are some systems where lots of fights go down, or fleets start their roams: Vlill, Nenna, Nis, Essesier, Eugales and others.
2. Depends on who you fly with to be honest. You can do cheap t1 fitted frigs (Derp Atrons!) and have tons of fun in fleets, but they are probably not the best solo ships (unless your name is X Gallentius)
If you are in general militia, you-¦ll have access to public fleets and to the dubious honor of being in militia chat (to be honest, I hear Gallente militia general chat is good compared to the other 3 militias *shudder*) and sometimes FCs from the largest and most active corps will put together public fleets to get the newbies involved.
However, it doesn-¦t happen very often, mainly because an astonishing amount of people insist on basing out of Villore. My problem with Villore? It-¦s highsec (not helping the war effort as much as they could), they get camped on FDU station very often, or they get ganked jumping into lowsec. Seriously, living in lowsec is much safer.
If you join a militia corp, the experience is exponentially better, and I-¦m not being hyperbolic. If you are in a corp that is active and bases out of a lowsec system, you-¦ll probably be sharing TS3 with other active corps. This means that even if your corporation is too small to have anything going on it-¦s own, at any given time you-¦ll see people in different channels doing different things: plexing (defending or offensive = makins isk), doing explorations, running small gangs into enemy territory, roaming, camping, or just shooting the breeze.
Being in those corps will also allow you to participate in the big militia fleets that form almost on daily basis to respond to big pirate camps or squids , and the fighting corps based in lowsec usually have much better fleet comms and composition that your regular public militia fleet. This is true for all 4 militias.
3. There's a very good mix of 1v1, 1v2, 1v6 and so on :) you also get small gangs and not so small fleet engagements happening all the time.
4. You can join right in, but you will probably be better served by joining a corp as I said above. |

Since the location question was answered above, I'll just sound off on a couple points as I see them.
Yes, you can just dive in, solo or group, NPC or player corp. If you join while in an NPC corp you'll be joined to the Gallente FW NPC corp automatically. You'll then have access to the Militia intelligence stuff; there's a Militia icon in the NeoCOM. There is also a warzone control map in there that gives a rough overview of the system control. You can also open your Star Map and set the filter to (I believe) Sov control and see the warzone areas. In general, you can roam in any of the warzone low sec you want; just remember that when you're in Caldari or Amarr high sec space the faction police will come after you. They're easily escapable and fightable, but not worth the time. Others have suggested joining an FW corp; I would recommend going solo to get a feel for it and whether you like it or not; you can then join a FW corp once you have an idea of what's involved.
As for equipment, fitting T1 ships and gear is perfectly fine. Most in the warzone that aren't in a gang fly T1 ships with T2 fittings, just to keep costs down, but it's not a big deal. Learn in cheap ships and fittings that you can afford to lose. While looking into it, run some Navy missions and keep all the loot (ABs, MWDs, guns, modules, etc): you can use a lot of this stuff in your T1 fits for roaming or plexing.
FW fights can (and do) happen anywhere. It's not restricted to the warzones. You can kill or be killed in your own faction's high sec 1.0 systems by someone in one of the opposing factions, so bear that in mind. No Arena silliness: pvp happens. Personally I love solo, but there are--- um, tactics? --- to use that help with survival however you choose to do it. |

1. Gallente FW occurs in Nenn station or in pods flying back from Enaluri. 2. You need to buy all members of Caldari State Capturing 3 plex each. 3. It's all 1v1. Never even seen another member of my faction while flying about. 4. Just go solo. No one in FW blobs or uses boosts.

You really should move to lowsec. People basing out of Dodixie (highsec) are VERY far away from the warzone and not really contributing much.
People based out of Villore get camped on FDU station or ganked jumping into losec via OMS or Oulley (from Orvolle)
Now, the market might be a problem in lowsec, specially if you don-¦t have a lot of isk. Many corps however will be happy to just give you a couple frigs to fly in while you build up your wallet and get your stuff jumped in. As mentioned by a squid, Nenna is a good system to go to.

Dodixie is the main Gallente market hub. Villore is the closest high sec system next to FW. Villore is also a high sec "spoke", so noobs use Villore as a stepping off point.
The Villore/Old Man Star gate is oftentimes camped, and Amarr/Caldari FW corps have a habit of camping the stations in Villore.
Less contested high sec systems include Orvolle and Stacmon. (Hevrice is kind of dead w.r.t FW.) However, it's better to base out of low sec. Heydieles is a good first location, followed by Nennamaila, then Vlillirier. Other spots include Nisuwa, Eugales, and Ostingele.

1. http://evemaps.dotlan.net/map/Amarr_VS_Minmatar , http://evemaps.dotlan.net/map/Caldari_VS_Gallente 2. Like any other PvP in the game you can participate at any level as long as you have the desire 3. Healthy mix imo, however it really depends on where you live, what corp/alliance you are in, and how big your balls are. 4. Yes unless you have sufficient pvp experience to fly solo all the time. Public fleets are a rarity in FW
