Hey,
Had a look at the ship set-up/buzzard thread above, but the majority of set-ups there seem to be ew / pvp set-ups.
I was hoping for suggestions on a set-up for purely defensive purposes as I will be only using my buzzard to recce systems in small-scale pvp situations, so i'm thinking more speed / evasion / defence?
I'm still very much a n00b on ship mods / fittings so either take pity or flame away but this is as far as i've got:
Hi: rocket launcher w/defenders & small nos fo use against frig w/scramblers
Med: ABII to minimise sig and then shield booster and a dampner or two? EM booster / hardner maybe?
Low: speed (OD/Nano)/ wcs mix (more flames on the wcs? heh)
Still spare slots and I imagine, plenty of room for improvement
Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

I assume you're running a CO II cloak on there too?
For defense, racial ECM's may be the way to go to break the locks of tacklers allowing you to escape. --------------

The absolute most important defensive module on your Buzzard is your brain, followed very closely by the cloaking device. Ideally, you'll never be seen.
Try to take initial looks at a gate (or any other object) from a distance - a quick scan, then warp in at 100km. Try to come in from an odd angle (so you stay out of people's warp paths) and then head up or down almost immediately, to get out of the way. If you're going to be recon-ing the same system routinely consider making a good set of BMs, for instajump and marks above all the gates so you have a "safe" place to observe from.
Other modules I carry anyway - hi- rocket launcher with defenders, probe launcher med - small cap battery II, AB II, Caldari-specific jammer (so I stand a chance against any Crow pilot lucky enough to lock me) lo - WCS, MAPC

i'd suggest:
cloak, probe
afterburner (or MWD). cap battery. ECMs
MAPC (if needed). copro (if needed). rest nanofibers
if you get in a fight in a buzzard, you are dead already - the ECMs are just to stop a lock so you can cloak (a chance of survival - though not a good one)

Thanks for the help and suggestions!
It's this "fine detail" that I don't understand, should I use dampners to slow down enemy lock time or ecm burst type thing to break it, cloak and warp away...
But I have some good idea's to try out now, so thanks again!

dampners: decrease targeting distance, idealy you decrease the targeting distance for a far away ship so they loose the lock and you can cloak
jammers: disable targeting ability. up close where dampners don't work anymore, like when someone decloaks you on proximity (2.5km), no dampner will help you (or you need to stack too many dampners)
