Watching Evangelion 3.33.
I no longer know what's going to happen based off of the anime. Its intentionally dropped me in at the deep end and I can't look away.

C4 (UK TV Channel) went through a spat many years ago by having an actual anime season
1 of the shows they aired was legend of the 4 kings, they also aired full films like Akira
then they stopped doing it and I was sad |

Saw Sword Art online. Was alright I suppose, could have had a better plot outline and a bit more character development...

Kirjava wrote:Hey, does anyone want some unleaded Nightmare fuel? Attack on Titan. That thing is 60m tall and its in a near post apocalyptic medieval Europe. Last stand city, you know the setup. Seems like one of the main charecters is a novelty as they are the last known Oriental in the world (direct quote) so yea, humanities nearly extinct and apparently must taste nice.... The Titans other than that one are smaller and... bizzare, think 10m tall middle aged men that are autistic and like chewing on people to spit them back out again (they can't actually digest them). Its about the mid 9th century so yea.... its dark and I suspect that they are all going to die. A humerus version of the opening. I laughed so hard I ran out of breath. Pingu! |

I also do not get anime.
Its interesting i just dont get it.... least not the modern stuff.
I do like Ghibli though. Saw the new movie on the weekend. Its.... interesting. I dont think it will do well abroad, its made more for internal consumption.
Though it did get japanese right wingers in a tizzy. Which is always amusing. Its like trying to be mauled by a kitten. "I think you should buy a new Mayan calendar. Mine has muscle cars on it." --áKenneth O'Hara

I recommend Ghost in the Shell, anticipated a large chunk of internet culture.
Its different, it isn't following Hollywood so it drew me in when I was 12 as it was something I could not predict, having never been exposed to a non western mentality or culture before.

*Hides under a rock* Never understood the appeal and/or the entire subculture surrounding it? Yup, I'v watched various links of anime that have been posted over the years but I have never once seen something that made me want to get into watching anime regularly. Every one has different tastes and that's fine by me.
The early stuff is generally dark, dystopian & post apocalyptic part of the inspiration for that darkness is Hiroshima & Nagasaki and the military occupation bases
The later stuff, to me, is just eastern cartoons. people instead of talking rabbits and coyotes

Don't really watch it that much. Most of what Ive seen is the much older stuff, like Bastard!!!, Grey: Digital Target, Area 88 (the original, not the remake), Crying Freeman and stuff like that.
My favorite is still Area 88, though. Nothing Personal - Just Business...

Its good. But is very niche, given its subject matter.

I used to watch lots of anime when I was about 14/15 but that disappeared rather quickly. Nowadays I almost never watched it. The last one I saw was the Berserk-movies and they were just ******* awesome. |

Spirited Away is one of my all time favorites, not just regarding Anime, but regarding films in general.
I must say I haven't explored some of the more obscure things (yet - it's on my list, I'm taking notes from this thread, though I have little time for watching films lately), but aside from the Hayao Miyazaki stuff, which I grew up watching since I was 4, and other things mentioned on this thread (in particular Ergo Proxy and Cowboy Bebop struck a special chord with me), recently I greatly enjoyed Colorful, , and Paprika: two films I knew nothing about, but picked up at the store looking for some preconception-free experiences, and indeed I was very pleasantly surprised with both.
Edit: oh, also recently caught on TV the Trigun movie, though I hadn't watch the series or read the manga before, greatly enjoyed that one too. |
