I started my MMO experience with oldschool Ultima Online 12 years ago. It had a similar PvP ruleset in that you were free to engage anyone out of guarded areas, and you lose all your loot when you were killed. I've hopped around on many PvP MMO's since then except WOW- Shadowbane, Warhammer, Daoc, Everquest pvp server, UO emulators. The PvP in EVE is lacking imo, even when I won some fights it was due to numbers advantage or luck and there was no real rush of excitement that comes when you are not sure you are going to win or lose. How people can spend an hour setting up and roaming for 4 hours with a gang to kill 2-3 solo random targets and find it fun is beyond my understanding. I've lived in Null sec pirate regions, and done a lot of FW, both offer very little risk. It's a game that's centered 90% about the terms of the engagement and not actually what happens during the fight. My dream for EVE is place where I could simply fight other ships with a small team on a regular basis, like an arena. I would still play the game outside of this area, but it would allow me fun fast engagements that were about the action of the fight as opposed to how many people I can bring. I know I'll get a lot of - that's not the spirit of Eve, but I'll simply not enjoy myself or have fun if I am not allowed a chance to fight evenly matched opponents, win or lose.
My account is expiring and I'm moving on - just wanted to list a few grievances since I invested a few hundred hours the past few months. |

Then I'd suggest "making it rain" in some rookie system near you.

Hi,
Moved your post to a better forum in accordance with this rule:
Forum rules wrote: "Quitting" posts are only permitted on the Out of Pod Experience channel.
CCP recognize that during the course of gameplay a lot of friendships are made between players and that sometimes if a player is taking a break or departing from the EVE universe that they would like to say goodbye on the forums. Posts of this nature are only permitted on the Out of Pod Experience forum, and must be civil and well worded.

Ouch. Too bad you're leaving EVE, but I can actually completely empathize with your reasons why.
If you're looking for a similar game with more "do or die" in the pvp, try looking at http://www.vendetta-online.com/. It basically EVE if EVE had been made by a smaller company and was played with FPS controls. Your success in VO is solely dependent on your skills, reflexes, and a tiny bit of luck.
I'll be the first to admit that it's not as big or "well rounded" as EVE, but it's been around a year longer than EVE, which probably says something, and it's available on basically everything. New Infinity dev blog: http://inovaekeith.blogspot.com/2013/04/the-road-to-crowd-funding.html

Well, you're right that some people would enjoy that better, but arenas would be the end of EVE as we know it. EVE is neither easy nor fun, and nobody would bother with anything else if they just could log in and have some easy PvP fun.
Arenas would be to EVE what Tramiel was to UO. You can't just hand out some nails into a game about hammering screws and hope the players will keep hammering on screws as per Rule #1 of MMO: Every player is a min-maxer. Is Vendetta something like Jumpgate? I had a great time in that one. Especially with the zero-G physic part. |

Kinda sorta, at least based on the gameplay videos I've seen. New Infinity dev blog: http://inovaekeith.blogspot.com/2013/04/the-road-to-crowd-funding.html

I've never understood why people post "i quit" threads. I've played bunches of MMOs since UO and have never felt the need to create a quitting post for any of them. If I grow tired of a game I just push the cancel button and that's that.
