Hello!
The devtrack is back at Fanfest this year, with 5 sessions on various aspects of our developer tools. The devtrack will get you up to date on what our plans are for 3rd party developer tools, and give hands-on information about new stuff that we are getting closer and closer to releasing.
We have not been able to release CREST or Single Sign On to 3rd party developers as planned and announced at Fanfest last year, but we have made steady progress internally on both our new site for developers, and the CREST and SSO technology itself. We are also picking up development on the EVE API, since this will be around for a long time still, and we have also made progress on code for embedding our WebGL starmap and shipviewer components - so come along and hear what we are at, and what we are planning for the future!
The devtrack will be streamed to its own Twitch channel, more details soon - and we will also record all talks and publish them on the CCP Youtube channel after Fanfest. (We have a much better streaming and recording setup than last year.)
Here are the sessions:
DEVTRACK: Overview CCP Seagull presents future plans for 3rd party development for EVE and an overview of the tools we have available and where we are taking them.
DEVTRACK: CREST + API Hands on with CREST and the EVE API GÇô the programmers working on CREST and the EVE API present plans and features.
DEVTRACK: Licence and policing An update on the Developer License and how CCP will handle 3rd party applications in cases of malicious or misleading applications.
DEVTRACK: Single Sign On and authentication into the EVE Universe An introduction to CCPGÇÖs Single Sign On service. The SSO is a service that unifies authentication into the Eve Universe, it is also a service that allows 3rd party developers to write applications that use EVE authentication. This session will go over what SSO is, how to sign up as a 3rd party developer and use it.
DEVTRACK: WebGL Discussing recent work and future plans for use of WebGL in representing 3D objects on the web, including the shipviewer and starmap widgets
Sessions are currently scheduled for Thursday and Friday before lunch, exact times will be available in the Fanfest programme.
Hope to see you there!

I'm not able to go to Fanfest, but am very interested in those videos. Good to have information on those topics, as many developers (including me) were getting frustrated by the lack of information over the past year. |

Last year there were third party devs giving presentations about their own work. Will that be part of this year's devtrack too, or only CCP presentations? |

Yay - devtrack!
And a separate WebGL talk - good to know, I was thinking about extracting my WebGL map viewer from upro as a dedicated, reusable module...
Any news on the WebKit front for the IGB? Or would that be the "one last thing" in this WebGL session? upro - an online browser application to support navigation in New Eden and beyond. |

Each devtrack, with the exception of the Overview, includes both the presentation and a subsequent Q&A session and it will take place in the same room as the presentations. |

i'll read the evasion of the question as a "No there is no round table discussion planed on 3rd party developer subjects" Is it so hard to give a direct answer?

You do realize that the whole fricking Devtrack is about 3rd party developer subjects? So, not only one but effectively FOUR round tables... |

No, there is no session called "Roundtable" on the topic of 3rd party development - because we think more time is needed for discussions and questions and in relation to each topic - so we have provided plenty of space for just that as part of the devtrack program itself - which is just what CCP Bracari was explaining.
I will include a point about this in the original post.

The schedule lists the devtrack sessions twice. Are these extra long sessions or simply held twice, to give us chances to look at other sessions as well? upro - an online browser application to support navigation in New Eden and beyond. |

apr 25th 10am 4:51:15 http://www.twitch.tv/ccpdevtrack/b/395439052 skip to 1:20:00
- New 3rd-party developers website and GitHub account (CCPgames)
- SSO: as the fisrt feature on the new dev-website
- CREST: delayed, slow roll-out to minimize risks, no date given.
- API: Bugs will be fixed, maybe some small improvements, everything bigger will be CREST
- Toolkit: Will still be available, CCPs new internal building process, allows for improvements if requested.
- IGB: Chromium-based IGB is outdated, update very difficult, Evaluations how to solve this are underway.
- WebGL: Widgets for 3rd-party devs are underway.
apr 25th 3pm 1:45:15 http://www.twitch.tv/ccpdevtrack/b/395514732 3rd-Party Dev Licence
- Making real money with websites and apps is a problem for other CCP partners who actually pay CCP for their licensed use of CCP content.
- ISK donations are no problem, most probably also PLEX.
- Advertising will be most likely possible, but with some restrictions (i.e. no ads for competitors of CCP)
- The next, and hopefully final, draft of the new dev-license should be ready in the next 30 days.
License requirements:
- Valid Eve Online Account
- Valid Mail-Address
- Agree to license agreement
- Identity validation by (credit-card) payment.

I'm looking at this now. You actually need to skip to 1:27:00 because there's a random voiceover of an interview being conducted with the CCP HR people that completely blocks anyone from hearing CCP Seagull's opening remarks. At 1:29:00 she mentions a new website, developers.eveonline.com. You don't need me to tell you how that website is working right now.
I'll finish watching, but truthfully this whole CREST thing seems to be more empty promises from CCP. It has been 5 months since this was first talked about by Seagull in the CSM summit minutes from last December, and there doesn't appear to be anyone inside CCP who's actually producing anything for "the enablers". More smoke and mirrors from CCP. CREST is something I would really like to play with, but I'm not holding my breath for the day when that will be possible. I will be shocked if there's anything concrete before September/October.
More edits to come if anything in the rest of the presentations warrants.
At 1:30:30 we hear that the 3rd Party Development license is still being worked on. So nothing has been done. You can also see someone walking in front of the camera. I guess 8 minutes was more than enough for him to understand that there is pretty much nothing new to discuss. |
