Greetings,
I am wondering if there is anyone that has done a matrix (I will do one if no one has, but time saving would be great and I am sure someone has already done this) for Orca Boosting - Max Boost with Implants and T2 modules and Skills... for the amount of Yield and ISK per hour, and so on.
What I am trying to figure out is this:
Can a dedicated Orca Boosting Pilot earn enough to cover the cost of say a PLEX per month, what would be the amount needed to be "charged" to miners for such, per hour lets say, per miner to get to that... Assume HS, Advanced Miners (lets say perfect miners, in T2 Macks), and the general layout.
Anyone rattle off some facts and figures or shall I get out the calculator, spreadsheets, and coffee? - ugh. Look at all the Macks in local...impressive...very impressive...I see you have fashioned a new exhumer...much like you father's...your skills as a miner are now complete...indeed you are powerful as CCP Devs have foreseen. |

Well, here is an easy kicking off point:
Relative to NO fleet boosting, a maxed Orca with Mindlink will increase mining laser (NOT drones, though) yield by 70%.
Relative to a skills-only fleet booster, the Orca with mindlink will increase mining laser yield by about 55%.
If everyone is hauling their own ore (I'm assuming, because Mackinaws), obviously you will see less of a total yield increase because time spent hauling is time spent not mining, but those are the rough values.
How much you would have to charge to make it worthwhile is going to be dependent on a lot of other factors, most importantly would probably be the number of people being boosted. Pretty standard margin Vs. volume relationship, there. |

It also depends on how long people are mining for and what their skills are. If you're boosting a fleet of ore mongers in hulks stripping belts for hours on end it'll pay off quiet quick. |

orca boosts, at max skills, give ~70% yield over an unboosted miner.
for the sake of easy maths, if they earn 10m solo, they will earn 17m with orca boosts. that means you can charge them up to ~40% of their isk/hour for boosts (40% of 17 is 6.8, leaving them with 10.2).
alternatively if they're fleeted to give each other 10%, that means a fully skilled orca only provides ~54% yield bonus, so you'll have trouble charging more than about ~33% of their isk/hour.
so basically if you're "charging" for boosts you need to ensure that you're charging less than 40% of their isk/hour and even then, 40% is hardly worth their time. but, that's the maths. |

Your best bet is to be a part of a mining corp that does frequent mining ops. Most of the time the Orca pilot will receive a share of the total mined, basically counting as a miner. So the Orca pilot will be making as much as a miner.
Here is a spreadsheet I was working on that shows the M3 / hour based on ship type and boosting ship type.
You wont make much trying to offer your services to random people in local, you're better off working with a group of 5-15 miners in a corp since you'll make much more isk/hour, wont have issues with trust and will more frequently be needed.

Well the numbers have been posted, however, I must point out that it will be probably exceptionally hard to actually charge something for that kind of service. You see most places with more than 3 miners in one spot have already Orca alts who will take in any miner who is interested into their fleets free of charge.
On top of that any "serious" miner (i.e., whos doing it with sufficient number of accounts, for substantial amount of time) has already a Orca alt. Here, sanity... niiiice sanity, come to daddy... okay, that's a good sanity... *THWONK!* GOT the bastard. |

I think your best bet for 'charging for Orca services' is including the use of your Orca booster as part of an Ore Buyback Program for a corporation you're running that does mining.
The volume of ore you're buying from your Corporation (and thus, selling) increases in line with the bonus yield your Orca is providing. Your individual members will be making more ISK than they would solo with a lot less thinking to do that detracts from their rock-crunching.
I get the feeling that this is more work than you were hoping for, but there you go. Ex-Kaalakiota citizen. Ex-Hyasyoda citizen. CEO of-áK+îKAK. Despite her corporate journey, Quinzel now subscribes to the leanings of the Practical bloc.-á |

Have to agree with this. Mining boosts are incredible, but they're not rare, and non-bot miners tend to be social enough to invite people into their fleet. |
