Why not just make our lives a little easier and include an option to filter fleet mates from DScan? |

Because what exactly prevents you from asking them what their ships and shipnames are?
If the D-Scan was able to determine whether or not a ship in a certain direction is friendly or not (in fleet), then it would be able to know who's piloting it, and therefor it would be able to show you who's the pilot of ANY ship on your dscan.
So basically, no, not good idea. |

So basically, no, not good idea. This isn't a very strong argument. How is it then that we can have ships warp to fleet member's location anywhere in space? From an in-game background perspective, it would make sense that ships fleeted together share data about each member's respective positions in space and such data would probably be taken into account by the ships D-scan systems to disregard false positives. |

on a side note to the same topic - make d-scan be able to load its own overview profile so ur not loosing your overview setup (if only for a short time) while scanning for things with d-scan....
for this current topic - a good awareness of who is flying with you, in what and what they are called, should be enough....
get ur fc to delegate a "name theme" that everyone can relate to.... |

your ship already knows exactly where your fleet-mates are, because you can warp to them, so you should be able to filter them, though maybe only on certain hulls :D |

A few FCs that I've flown with have requested a special character at the beginning of ship names precisely to combat this issue. Todays Character might be "&", Tomorrows Character might be "%" etc, It then sorting by ship name makes it a little easier to spot randoms that have just arrived in system :P |

To those of you who support the idea of having your DScan filter fleet mates, I have one question. Do you also still support removing local from the game?
This is practically a suggestion to have local replaced with DScan as a tool for quick finding anything potentially hostile and fallible only in the event people are undocked without being in fleet or a ship is cloaked if you like both ideas. Possibly slightly "better" than local in the estimation of some but I don't support removing local atm because I think it will do way more harm than good and I've been playing as a low sec pirate for so long that I'm better than most at using my DScan. If you were to take out local and give me this instead, I wouldn't need local at all.
If you don't like the idea of removing local then you don't need this anyway, there are a few things to watch for. First of all if you are with your fleet any ships that show a range other than ---- are with you or on your grid so how do you not see them? In any case the absolute worst case scenario is that you scan out a friendly, warp to it, find nothing (because it's filtered from your overview, right?) and waste 20 seconds. Secondly knowing your fleet comp will likely prevent you from chasing friendlies and knowing what friendlies typically name their ships can save you a lot of time. |
