Why dont ships have salvagable hulls when they are destroyed?
I think its a neat idea. A corp mate who left Eve 10 months ago recently came back and was disapointed when he found out this isnt part of the game, and i have to agree...
Why cant NPC and player ships leave a salvagable hull when they die? The Hull whould refine to minerals (which could be effected by the "Scrapmetal refining" skill we currently have). It wouldn't have to be a graphic intensive hull, it'd be fairly small (so if players died, their pod wouldn't get stuck on the hull of their dead ship) and would last 15 mins or something, so it wouldn't lag out higher sec systems when a bunch of frigate rats are popped.
It wouldn't refine to a large mount of minerals, as you've blasted huge holes in it.... maybe 2-5% of the minerals that it takes to make the ship, and they'd be fairly bulky depending upon the size of the rat which has been popped. Player ships always drop them, and NPC's coul have a chance based drop if people were worried about NPCing as an alternative to mining (not that 5% of a ships mineral count would be much if the hull of a BS rat would be 5Km3 or something...
Just an idea ___________

was think along the same lines myself. However I came up with allowing scrap metal to be refinable or something similar and adding that to the cans based on teh size of the ships. Also figured if you make it have a fairly high volume it will for you to have a industrial available too loot. Or perhaps have salvage ships with a reduction in the Volume of that item.

i like it too.
Perhaps with a bit of an imagation, there could one day be ship desinged to haul a large number of hulls, or a ship to refine the hull on the spot?

Actually putting it in a can would be less laggy... nice addition ___________

Hello, could this not be done by just giving a set number of the compounds that are dropped by npc drones allocated for each ship type, and have them stuck in the can when the ship goes pop.

The compound drops are a perfectly suitable idea for everything, except T2 ships. If someone's flying a nice T2 ship and gets blown to bits, you'd need something valuable to represent the scrap from that. Maybe some compounds that refine into morphite?

I like this idea . Some how i think it would take a fair bit of maths to work out a fair amount of mins droped by ship types i dont wanna blast a dreadnauht and get the same amount of minerals out of it as i would if i blew away a BC. All in all i think this idea is great CCP please let this become reality on TQ.

A good first step would be if the drop can of a ship had a wreck texture.
To start with only 4 wreck types are needed, frigg sized, cruiser sized, industial/BS sized and capital ship sized.
Thus when a ship gets blown upp a wreck is left behind and not a perfectly normal can identical to a jetisoned can.
All loot dropped is just like with a drop can stored in the wreck but as you fly upp to a wreck and open it you get a feel of looting the wreckage and not the common feeling of looking through a box someone packed and jetisoned for our convenience 2 mili-seconds before the ship kaboomed.
An additional bonus is that this should be very simple to implement as all you would really do is change the skin of the can.
If the devs are realy dedicated they could even make a separate looking can for each ship hull type in the game making it possible to see from the can wich ship type you are looting, personally I think each race and unique design NPC faction should have their own versions but there is no real need for diferentiating between ship hulls in the same above category (ir the wreck from a Rifter would look different from a Kessie but not from a Probe).

The modules that are left behind are the salvageable items, Thats what you refine, Thats whats left over. |

Yes but it would be nice if the can they dropped in had a "wreck" texture to make the experience more enjoyable :)

personally i would like to see something along the lines of a salvage barge,, and salvage drones,, salvage crytals,, for the modulated strip miner.. that way we can slowly clear up the eve floating junk,, all those dead stations and wrecks,, that way it can be introduced as a subsection of mining and use the same protocols,, and use the ratio of mass = minerals same as in manufacturing them in the first place,, allowing for 25- 40% of the original mass remaining after destruction factored to take into account how they were destroyed, would be cool for npc/pvp ships
ie weapon type,, rails punch hole,, lasers burn hole and missles blast holes.. then also ammo type,, kinetic,, thermal,, em,, etc, basically because kinetic is pure impact, so clean damage,, thermal burns away minerals,, and em would alter the structure( i think) i guess you can kinda see what i mean
but i would love a career as a salvager...

Yes Yes YES !
Let (player) ships spill Metal Scraps, Garbage, Radioactives, --stuff like that.
Would also make for an incredible feeling of scenery to pass by a recent battlefield that way.
For lag avoidance resort to loot cans dropping instead of stuff floating about...

Good idea. I don't know how much more a spinning wreckage graphic would take over a container(not for anything that causes lag),but this would be really cool.

I think that the damage of your guns should be a factor in how the wreckage of the ship is leftover. Blasting cruisers with large guns or torps would pretty much leave you a 'wreckage' of unsalvagable junk. But if you take out a cruiser in an elite frig with small guns there would be less obliteration so to speak. And useing certain types of damage would effect that. Explosive and thermal being the most potent I think. Just my thoughts...

Salvagable matrials.. I like this idea, the one thing that i say should be considered is salvaging a "section," as in a mostly intact piece of the ship. Then being able to use it in conjunction with other salvaged materials to construct a new ship.. The too damaged parts could be refined and used that way..

Beautiful idea I must say. Was just heading to the new ideas to do a similiar kind of post which i prbly still but thisChronicle does mention salvaging.
Would be quite a nice thing if places of battle and ship destruction left a mark but it probably hasn't been implemented cause of lag issues. I know it sucks when i enter a deadspace complex and there's a structure made out of hundreds of walls it does slow down the game.

Adding a texture will not cause much lag, anyone who has been in the cosmos complexes know that.
Its actually a tad suprising the first time you enter an archeology/hacking field and see all the cans floating about, its not untill you look closer however you realise the cans dont have the common jetcan texture.
