I've been mining with some friends for the past few days just to garner up some ISK and skills in the meantime. We have been focusing on Kernite as it is one of the best ores to mine in High sec. My question is if it is actually the BEST to mine in High sec. I've heard Scordite is good as well but I do not know the specifics on what is best to mine. Thanks. |

Would It be better to sell the unrefined ore or to refine and then sell the minerals? As far as refining goes it depends on your refining skills. if you can not get at least a 95% refine(including any taxes you pay), then you can definitely get more isk selling the raw ore. But sell using sell orders not buy orders. Trust me it will sell fast in even a minor trade hub.
For example, most of my characters can get a 100% refine at any 50% station. but some of those stations will take a couple percent as tax. In Jita for example I get a 100% refine with no tax. But in Amarr I still pay 1.8% to tax(the we take portion)
If you sell your raw ore at 95% of its mineral value I will buy it, or chances are some one else will beat me to it. And I will make 5% profit with my 100% refine. You will get 95% of its value. But if you refine it yourself at say 96.5% and pay an additional 2% tax you will only get 94.5% of its mineral value. But then you need to post sell orders for the minerals to get that 94.5%.
You need refining 5, refining efficiency 4, and the ore specific skill for each ore you want to refine to 2-3, as well as better than 6.3 standing with the corp that owns the station to get 100% refine. With perfect refining skills you can get 98.5% refine at a 35% station. I believe a refining implant can take that to 100%.
hauling raw ore to a trade hub can be more bother than it is worth. You will need to decide for your self if it is worth it. If you are a long way from a trade hub you may be better off selling the raw ore at a discount at your local station, or taking the refining hit and hauling the minerals to market.
in some situations the refining hit is worth it. For example there are wormhole corp that use refining arrays. the they are capped at 75% refine, but is still better than the logistics of hauling out the ore and bringing the minerals back. If you are building capitals in a wormhole that is a lot of loads to haul in.

Prices have dropped like a rock for all of the refined High Sec Ores, so I've stopped completely.

why do the maths when you can spam the science and industry forum? Yay, this account hasn't had it's signature banned. or it's account, if you're reading this. |

Guess I can take it to the Rookie help since players there are more inclined to give actual helpful feedback minus the ****** attitude. Thanks for your post even though you attributed nothing of value. |

oh really, is that why my first reply was exactly what you were looking for?
and you think i have an attitude? although with responses like that, you wonder why people don't feel inclined to help? Yay, this account hasn't had it's signature banned. or it's account, if you're reading this. |

Would it be better to zip up your fly before walking out of your house, or just leave it down for ease of access? Would it be easier to cut your foot off, or just trim your toenails? Would it be easier to just accept the price on a new car from the first guy you talk to, or DO THE MARKET RESEARCH TO GET THE BEST VALUE FOR YOUR MONEY?!??!?!

Seriously, bookmark the cerlestes link. The values on that table come from market data and are updated several times per day. So what is the best highsec ore today is not always going to be the best highsec ore tomorrow.
Quote:Would It be better to sell the unrefined ore or to refine and then sell the minerals? This depends on your refining skills, distance to market and what sort of refinery is at your base of operations. For example, if your station only has 30% refinery, and you have no refining skills, you're better off hauling your ore to market and selling it. If you have high standing (above 6.67 drops the "we take" to 0) with the corporation at that station, moderate refining skills and a 50% refinery, you'll probably be getting around 99.5% of the minerals, so it is much better for you to refine them and ship the minerals to market. In between those 2 endpoints you need to do some math.
http://wiki.eveuniversity.org/Refining Has tables to show what you can get with various levels of refining skills.

You know , by the time I log in 4 toons get them all in a gang and get all my crap to the mining site , I am going to take it all for 4 + hours! Yeah sometimes I pick certain ores 1st, but really for that current project , I need it all. If it was about isk per hour I would be doing something else!......... and I like mining........ once a week or so! |

Yeah.
The bigger the mining op, the more likely it is to just vacuum up everything. When I mine solo, sometimes with one Orca, I might be selective for one ore type, usually whatever is most profitable. I can often do that, since I mine in out-of-the-way high-sec systems with uncrowded belts (I don't mine very often, though).
With a big op, I'm likely to assign each mine an ore type, like you're on veld, you're on scord, and maybe vacuum in 2 belts simultaneously, or even 3. |

I find Scordite to be a.. bulky ore, mineral-wise.
I live in the sticks and for one haul of Scordite is roughly only 1/6th the value of a single Kernite haul (say 100M/haul for Scordite, Kernite goes 600M/haul). Pyroxeres goes for ~1/3rd against Kernite but since I have to travel a long distance, I value the single haul Kernite trip more.
My concern here is to spend more time in the belts, lesser time in hauling. |

then mine scordite, and contract your hauling to red frog.
you'll earn more mining than you'll spend contracting stuff to red frog. Ice Mining Skill Plan. |
