It's not easy to pull in new pilots when they are being preyed upon by people who want an easy target, or the null sec blocks that paint such a negative image of EVE. Most of the things you hear about EVE are about all the terrible things we manage to do to each other while under the flag of Anon.
There are not many who wish to be part of the worst society has to offer.
There are the good, but they are massively over shadowed by the bad.

That is because those are the ones the media like to talk about, which is also why I wrote that "10 years, 10 questions" thing, to show that not everyone in Eve runs around doing "ebil" stuff, even though I do not think the majority do.
As always "bad guy steals bazillions" makes a better headline than "Players help each other out" even if the occurrence of the latter is way higher than the former
*shrugs*
EDIT: This isnt an alt, or at least I dont think so, it could be, I am easily confused. |

Exactly, and this is why EVE is great , unlike the majority of MMOs which are "meh" at best and will die soon after launching. Most people (including, unfortunately several EVE players) simply aren't suited for EVE. That makes EVE "exclusive". Exclusicvity is good, it's why Gold is better than dirt, and why Sachs 5th Avenue is better than Wal-mart.
If you want wal-mart in an mmo, sorry, this ain't it.
Quote: (This is an Alt, and this isn't how EVE should be... but it's all a matter of opinion, isnt it?)
Nope, the fact is EVE is good and most games aren't, which is why EVE still exists and most MMOs made so far are already dead.

From my (shoddy) experience the main reason why new people quit is because EVE isn't a short-term game to play. It takes months if not years to actually get anything out of it. One of my friends quit because he thought it was too complicated. He logged in, did the Aura tutorial, and logged out never to be seen again - didn't even try it the rest of the 21 days he had free. |

Same with some of my friends. I love em, but they need instant gratification and EVE isn't about that.
The very things that make it great keep it small.

After 10 years, this is how Far EVE has gotten? I'd call it stable before I'd call it growing. Any growth it has is nothing compared to what it could have if the community was better. |

EVE would be incredibly, awfully boring if everyone just 'helped' each other. It would be a crappy spacesim filled with mission runnners and miners and absolutely nothing happening. The only reason you can play this game is because bad people are doing bad things. You should try it some time, finding a little bit of your true nature is always enlightening. |

It's a role playing game, dude. The only online role playing game that I am aware of where you are allowed to play the bad guy. This is the exact thing, and indeed, the only thing that distinguishes EVE from other MMOs, the only thing that makes it so unique and special.
Join the Revolutionary Front and liberate New Eden from it's stuff.

That's the spirit of eve. Show all you invite or tell about eve this: http://www.danielschurter.net/mainsite/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/eve-learning-curve.jpg You either have the guts to play eve or you don't. That's why so many get attached to this game. It's special. And no, this game is not for everybody. I also have a theory that you have to hate yourself (even if you don't admid it) to play this game on the long term. But even if you leave for good.....you usually get back, be it in a year or 5. It's hard to grow a game when the company is forced to change direction from creating content that will grow the playerbase to creating content that satisfies the existing playerbase just because a bunch of spoiled little kids stomp their feet and shoot at a statue.
Unfortunately CCP is not going to see a huge increase in subs anytime soon because EVE is still the exact same game it was 10 years ago with a few new ships and toys. Gameplay hasn't changed, mechanics haven't changed. Nothing truly new has been created. Still just ships in space.
The people that want to play ships in space are already playing ships in space. The ones that want more from a $15 a month sub don't get anything more so they don't play.
Also...in case you haven't noticed yet...the subscription paradigm is quickly flying out the window. CCP is going to eventually need to figure out how to make EVE free to play without allowing people to have 100 alt accounts or they won't grow because nobody is going to want to pay to play a game when they can find something else for free that gives them more than what the pay to play game offers.
Bounties for all! https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=2279821#post2279821 |

Are you saying this is a good thing? Honestly, if it takes months, years, or, hell, even a week for someone to get "anything" out of something, that person should probably look elsewhere for entertainment. |
