I'm planning to train mining, and I'm trying to decide what to train.
Assuming if you max out your mining skills, and use the best ship to mine.
How much can you make per hour mining low ends in high sec?
How about high ends in null sec?
Also, how much can you make per hour mining ice?
Thanks. |

Hey Mohandar, welcome to the wide world of mining!
First place I would point you to would probably be the ISK/hour guide, and the mining guides you will find stickied somewhere around here. Some of these guides are dated, but most of the basic principles remain unchanged. A little looking goes a long way.
You can find pdf versions of these guides, too.

As for your other quesitons;
1. There is no such thing as a "best ship to mine." There is mining solo, and mining as a group. There are barges/exhumers designed for solo mining (retriever/mackinaw), and for group mining (covetor/hulk). If you are just beginning you needn't worry about which one: they all take the same skills, and you are going to be spending a long time in a venture anyway before you can jump up the ladder. Just train for mining frigate and some basic mining lasers, and go from there.
Join a (good) corp as soon as you can. This separates the decent earners from the wealthier of the bunch.
...And for goodness sake, remember to tank your ships, and be at the keyboard. Don't make yourself a target.
2. This entirely depends on where you mine and where you sell. Research the local market in the area you plan to mine in. Check prices, and remember that "more valuable" ores also may take up more space in the ore bay. Account in the fact that mining in highsec has gotten a little more dangerous over time.
3. See above.
4. See point 2. Please remember that changes are coming to ice mining and after Odyssey is released you will not find ice in belts anymore. This means that the price of ice is going to go up, but it also means you are going to have to share sites with other ice miners. It also means that gankers are going to have a much, much easier time finding targets. |

Myth.
They can already warp straight to us. Nothing is changing there, at all.
Edit: It is now the High Sec Grav Sites with High End Ores that are now easier to find. -áGÇ£The world is a stage, but the play is badly cast.GÇ¥-á-á - Oscar Wilde |

Good point. Fixed.

With the impending changes it is possible that you have missed the boat. I would advise looking for another career option. Revenue from mining is on a potential downer depending on how it all plays out.
I would suggest looking to get a T3 cruiser instead and train up to do exploration. The changes to exploration are going to make it much easier to do and it will probably pay out better than mining. Certainly better than ore mining. |

you make a good point. the money in mining is mining ice RIGHT NOW. once the change hits, ice will still be valuable but much more difficult to obtain. ice mining will make more sense as a hobby than as a main source of income after the change. by all indications ore and mineral prices, especially those available in hi-sec, will see a decrease in profitability.
i'm interested to see what opportunities will open up in exploration. especially when considering the new sites won't require you to fight NPC's. should open up a lot more opportunities for newer players in low and null. |

Someone should put together a sticky with the answer to this thread (a culmination of the BILLION FREAKIN' TIMES IT'S BEEN ASKED), with links to Google docs spreadsheets THAT AUTOMATICALLY COMPARE MINERAL PRICES ALL OVER EVE for the losers that can't do their own research.
Cuz, that would be awesome. And it would be the Easy Button that everyone seems to demand from Hello Kitty Spaceships Eve Online. "Blow it all on Quafe and strippers." --- Sorlac |
