It would be great to get a new elite frigate which is a tackling specialist. The idea being that the frigate is designed to tackle big ships and pin them with propulsion jamming hardware.
Required Skills For Basic Tackling Frigate:
Tackling Ships (New) - Frigate 5 - Propulsion Jamming 5 - Electronic Warfare 5 - Electronic Upgrades 5 - Advanced propulsion Jamming 1 (new)
Required skills for advanced tackling frigates: - Tackling Frigates 4 (new) - Advanced propulsion Jamming 3 (new) - Propuslion Jamming Specialization 3 (new)
Stats:
The ship would be configured with the idea of having no offensive capability but strong tackling capability. They would fly at a speed faster than assualt ships but slower than interceptors. The would have high resists and their bonuses would favor propulsion jamming stregth, optimal range and duration.
Basic: 0 high slots 4 med slots 2 low slots. Advanced: 1 high slot (no turret hardpoints) 4 med slots, 3 low slots.
Skills:
Advanced Propulsion Jamming: Gives a Bonus to optimal range for propulsion jamming hardware.
Propuslion Jamming Specialization: Increases duration of jamming cycle.
Jamming Countermeasures: Causes interference in jamming hardware of targeted ship, reducing effectiveness. This would work in concert with a new module.
Modules
Webifier Countermeasures - reduces the effect of sublight jamming systems and has chance to break the lock of the jammer. (Requires Skill: Jamming Countermeasures 1)
Anti Jamming Field Generator - Interferes with the abilities of warp and web jammers on the targeted ship, reducing effectiveness and breaking locks. (Requires Skill: Jamming Countermeasures 4)

interesting, wud b a bit unbalanced though. the bses wudnt b able to blow em up on the way in, and sure as hell cudnt peel em off when it got to orbit 500m =/

Why is that unbalanced. You should use cruisers, destroyers or other light ships to takeout light ships. This 10bs vs 10bs fight is a bit of monotny.

because, don't you understnad? Sheesh... once you can fly battleships, you should beable to wtfpwn everyone who is NOT in a battleship, noob.
(This is typical attitude of everyone I meet, so many think that getting everyone into BS's is the way to 'win', and with everyone thinking that, you end up with 20 guys in BS's who don't know any other ship class)

Interceptors are supposed to be the game's tackling specialists, and they already perform their jobs admirably. I can vouch for that - I've lost enough ships thanks to being scrambled by 'em. -Wrayeth

Intys dont really have enough mid slots to tackle effectively unless in packs or against an unprepared foe. They are, imho, more of an anti-tackler than a tackler. Hence the name ... they are there to intercept other frigates.

If that was the case, why do assault frigates generally pwn them?
Seriously, it only takes two midslots to tackle a larger ship, and three to tackle a frigate-sized: 1 for MWD/AB, 1 for the warp scrambler, and the optional third for a web. Most interceptors fit this criteria; however, there is one (that I know of) that does not: the crusader needs help in terms of tackling ability to fulfill its role - it only has ONE medium slot.
The crow, on the other hand, fits the bill perfectly. It even does decent damage with rockets in the process. -Wrayeth

Agree, interceptors should be these tackling specialists, which they are not really. It's sometimes better to use a Vigil than a Stiletto, for example, if you essentially have to tackle. Ideally, Ceptors "should" (IMHO) get some more slots and/ or capacitor, and some bits of resistances for a more serious survivability... What I'm pretty sure at least is, they should lose these stupid weapon bonusses to get "tackling"-type ones. Like web/ scrambling strength and optimals - +10% per level wouldn't sound excessive to me?

Edited by: Wendat Huron on 07/10/2005 11:00:19 Dividing up what the different tech II frigates are good for is a good move, we need more makes of them out there, not just two a piece.
Some which gets a bonus on sensor boosting and dampening, some with tracking disrupting or target painting abilities. There's no end to the possibilities!

Maybe a simple redesign of the tier 1 ceptors could produce the same thing? For example, if ares had 4-5 midslots, it would be a pretty good tackler, same with raptor.
I agree about the idea that more tech 2 frigates are needed, but maybe not a ship for tackling is whats most needed.
