My lesson today: Do not fly anywhere near player controlled towers. They are strong and have insane range. The Badger peaked my curiosity a little too much.
And yet another ship is laid to rest. I really need to fit like 3 ships and have them ready to go so I don't need to fly back again and again. |

Hah! I did that, once, before I knew what a POS was.
Floating around in low-sec, I'm the only person in the system, and... what's this? There's a battleship on scan! Did someone just LEAVE a battleship floating around in space? Can I find it?
So I d-scan around a bit and, hmmm... it appears to be parked at that moon, there. Let's investigate!
....hey, that's weird, there's some kind of giant... soap bubble thing, here...

Before ya warp to a moon (or anything really) slim the scan and then un-check the "Use active overview" setting. If you see a pos tower and weapons/mods don't go there. Even if you do go by accident just have something ahead of you like a planet selected. If you see a big bubble hit warp the pos weapons take a while to lock.
If you un-check that box and see wrecks and drones he's in a plex/mission/anom. Hit your ship scanner to see the anoms or get in a combat probe ship. |

ah yes, POS guns. And of course fleet warping everyone with aggression to a gate or station is something every new FC does at least once. Bombing the out-gate so the enemy just clicks Jump and escapes while their cloaky scout nearly wears out his keyboard mocking you in local.
We once got bombed that way and they even managed to kill one of their own ships! it was hilarious and we all sent that guy 1 isk each. Because we're nice guys after all
And my favorite, chain decloaking a gang of stealthy ships. Someone, ALWAYS it seems, manages to DC or something and chain-decloak the bomber fleet. Usually right as you are within long point or bubble range....
Like everything else, the blooper reel of an Eve fleet is usually better than the actual operation itself. There is something to be said to total comedy fits too. Battle Badger fleets are great. I made a tackle-Venture (only mining ship I own carries dual autocannon) just for them.

POSes are sometimes offline, so a better method would be to make sure that your current overview setting includes force fields. if you see a force field, stay a way. if not, have a look.

True but I prefer the lazy way...and I hate clogged overviews with pos crap on D. |

Actually, 9 times out of 10, even in a "fight" as you call it, one party has no chance.

Building on what Daniel Plain said, Forcefields and POS show up as separate items, so if you're a killmail ***** like me, you can always do a quick scan, count up the number of POS vs Force fields, and if there are more POS than force fields, investigate!
Sometimes you can get shinies by killing stuff in the offlined POS! \o/ (Well you used to be able to anyway not sure about now) |
