Hi all,
I find the disparity between the model size of the turrets VS the ship is just too much. It actually looks ridiculous, these extraordinary tiny turrets on this ship that appears to be so much bigger.

Actually, the turret to ship model ratio is about right for the new ships...
Last thing we need is the ships looking like caricatures, small hulls with giant turrets...
Go find something else to whine about. |

The turrets (tractor/salvager) looks the right size on a destroyer that used to be the standard salvager.
Now, ORE in their wisdom found that a destroyer hull was too small, too fragile and lacked to infrastructure to hack up a proper dedicated salvager.
Being a bit on the cheap side (they're indys) they decided to solve this problem by reusing an existing hull (the Primae) and retool it for some proper salvaging.
Since the Primae, and then obviously the Noctis, is a battlecruiser sized hull the small utility turrets looks quite silly on such a large hull (they look even sillier on a salvager Rokh).
However ORE are indys, they bother about efficiency and don't give a flying duck about aesthetics.

I'd rather have the smaller Dramiel back with the larger turrets than what it is now. |

What would be better is if CCP gave Salvages and Tractors combat uses. I don't just wanna web a fool going for a gate, I wanna tow him into range of my blasters with my tractor beams! Then i want my salvagers to strip peices of his ship of while I'm tractoring him. Saving on savaging time is a must in this game

I remember thinking the same thing when I first started playing. I was used to Homeworld2 style of turrets (still the coolest ship designs in space-gaming IMHO) and when coming over to Eve was kindof ridiculous how small the turrets were, especially on the battleships, compaed to HW2.
I think that the tier 3 battlecruisers had it about right,but unfortunately, it doesn't look like things will ever change given Eve is going into its 10th year and they have no incentive to make any ship-wide changes of the kind.

Allright allright, I will settle for Large tractor beams and salvagers... something like... I really wanted doomsday salvagers...
large tractor beam 30 cpu 500 pg 35 km range 1000 ms speed.
large salvager 30 cpu 500 pg 10 km range 10% salvage rate
and a fitting bonus for marauders -50% fitting requirements for this modules...

All of these "explanations" don't really make up for the fact that the noctis looks like it has a bunch of tiny ticks sitting on it. Hell I'm fine with all of the other ships out there, just seems that they didn't want to do more effort than what was needed there.

more space to fit larger and more powerful analyzing computers, micro scanners, last I remember a salvager is just a sort of space xray radar machine to scan wrecks and find leftovers that are useful, a bigger radar on this case always literally means more data and even more precision (up to a point) but requires a larger base, thus a larger ship could use a larger salvager.
this would allow some people on low and null to run some sites and places for more profit without having to dock undock constantly changing ships.
and would help marauders as well |

I never noticed the turrets on my Noctis before reading this thread. Now I'm looking at them 23/7 and the more I do so the more annoying they become.

I think there is a place in the game for a dedicated salvaging destroyer. I can think of many times when salvaging in WHs where the thing that saved me is I was in a Thrasher. And I can think of a time when I got popped because I was in a slow aligning Noctis. Not to mention, a dessie takes up a lot less space in an Orca. |
