Windows 98SE, ME, 2000, XP Pentium IV 1.3GHz 256MB RAM 64MB 3D Graphics Card with DirectX 9.0c 2GB Free Hard Disk Space DVD ROM.

frankly in x2 is anything to go by double the higher spec thereand you will probably get a more reasonable idea.

Yeah the engine in X2 was total crap, it lagged like hell and didn't even look that good. I hope X3 isn't the same. -----------------

It's actually gone gold! Finally. It's been an age and a half in coming, but if the hype, concepts, screenies, trailers and what not are anything to go by, it should be a great game. X2 was brilliant, though I did have the odd grumble and frustrations, stemming mostly from the sensitivity of the controls while dogfighting against ludicrously agile enemies that make my Crow look slow! -------------

Heh - I cant wait for this to go on sale - tho it will probbably cost CCP a multi account customer loss for a couple of months lol.........
TBH I loved X2 - the impossible physics, the steamrollering of space lanes in BS'es and so on..... not to mention "Split brake for no one!"

I couldn't get into X2. I dl'd the demo and tried it out for a day or two, but I absolutely despised the flight model. It was so unsatisfying coming from the Xwing/Tie Fighter and Wing Commander games. The graphics were beautiful and the game seemed immersive, but I hated flying the ships. Did they change the flight model for this game or is it the same as X2? _______________ Spiritu Sanctum |

Its a very fun game, but setting up an empire etc does feel a bit lonely at times, being single player only! (\_/) (O.o) (> <) |

I have to say that X3 does look stunning.
Lets hope that the way it looks reflects in the way it plays in a positive way.

It has to be said - this looks like an amazing game if it plays as well as it looks.

Yes, just single player. It's a "sandbox" universe, sorta like GTA: Liberty City/San Andreas, where you can go anywhere, anytimt and do as you will. Trade, explore, fight, build...what it says on the cover! ;-) i believe there will be an MMO version in the future but don't know much about it, might be more info at egosoft's web site. -------------

Just got this newsletter in my inbox from egosoft, thought to share with anyone else awaiting news of X3.
-------------------------------------
Well, so much has happened since our last newsletter back in the summer. Mac users were introduced to the X-Universe and are now to be followed by a flock of penguins as X2: The Threat goes into beta testing for Linux. Speaking of beta testing, there has been quite a lot going on for X3 in the past few months, enough in fact to result on a nice gold disc being sent to the worldwide publishers on both CD and DVD. Phew! Lets look at all the news in some more detail.
To view the HTML version as well as available translations of this issue please go here http://www.egosoft.com/x/xnews/200510_44News.html
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx -= *X3: REUNION - GONE GOLD* =- xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Behind the scenes for the past few months, a huge amount of testing has been taking place. Far more than in any previous game and with enough organisation to mobilise a small army, bugs have been crushed, creases ironed out, crashes fixed... all of which has resulted in the shiny gold DVDs being couriered over to eager publishers worldwide. All this means that finally X3: Reunion will soon be for sale on a shelf near you, as well as being able to order direct from the Egosoft Shop. DeepSilver has already announced a UK release date of 28 October 2005 with other regions and versions expected imminently. Welcome to the X-Universe as youÆve never experienced it before... http://www.egosoft.com/shop/
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx -= *X3: REUNION - COLLECTORS EDITION* =- xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
As well as the standard (thatÆs not really a fair word to describe the game) X3 package, great news for German players û a Collectors Edition is also available. This includes a copy of FarnhamÆs Legend by Helge Kautz as audio book which describes the rich history of the X universe in colourful detail, as well as an X-Universe limited edition calendar and a soundtrack CD! English gamers should also look out for a limited offer in the Egosoft shop to get the translated version of the same novel (as a real book) as a free gift with their order of X3 û stay tuned for more news!
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx -= *X3: REUNION - ON DVD AND CD* =- xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Great news and more choice for all you gamers out there. X3 will be released exclusively on DVD in Europe but all you US gamers will get a choice of CD or DVD! Be forewarned though that you might need some extra storage space if you opt for the CDsà Different versions will be available through different retailers and Enlight will be able to confirm the names for you soon.
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx -= *X3: REUNION - NEW VERSIONS PLANNED* =- xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Whilst we celebrate the gold version of X3 in English and German, French and Italian versions are only just around the corner. As with X2: The Threat, other versions will also start localising immediately, including Russian and Polish. Check for updates at your local forum at www.egosoft.com for future updates. -------------

What is it about open ended space games?
The thing about X3 is that I can't find enough 'detail' about the game ... is it going to be fire fights with smaller ships - or capital class slow movers with tactical firing ... missiles or surgical beam slicing.
Of course - there are other questions like .. where is the 'I Win' button and also 'If the game is good and I can't peel myself away - can I convince my wife to bring my lunch to my office on a tray?'
I hope this gaem isn't all about pretty grfx. -TT

The sheer power of X is the way it can afford controllability to a single player. A single player can literally be a super congolomerate and battlefleet of his own. He can create lots of stations, create fleets of freighters to do automated trade runs, create fleets of warships to protect your stations and freighters. Real power trip there.
If you want to do this in a massive multiplayer scale, good luck. That's going to breed the same sort of cyber-social problems with uber-persistance like you had with Mankind before.
Like logging on one evening to see that all your "POS", merchant and warfleet all gone, destroyed by another player while you are offline. If X becomes multiplayer, you will truly need an alliance social infrastructure to watch over your assets while you are offline.

As a break really. Kind of like to see what the other guys are up to. I personally like XBTF, but could not get into X2. The crazy physics and the fact I have to manually pilot my ship into the docking bay until I can find the autodocker killed X2 for me. And the slow graphics.
But you know, when I had XBTF it had a very immersive environment. Much like Privateer 2 and Freelancer. I like to call it a glassbowl universe because everything comes alive on its own in that self contained universe. In EVE, it feels like the NPCs only put a show for you.
One thing I like in X is to be able to build and manage fleets of NPCs. You can assign freighters to do automated trade routes of your design, while keeping your stations you have built supplied with the materials and sell the goods they make. Then you build fleets of warships to protect your assets. X is a strange game because I would leave the machine on all night then see what happened in the morning, then leave it on all day, and see what happened when I come home in the afternoon. (You might find some of your factories destroyed and your defending fleet obliterated by roving NPC bands). While you are not in the machine, the universe keeps on clicking on its own.
My opinion about the previous game is that it is either a game you like very much or you will hate very much.
