Here's my problem. I have four planets for making my T1 products, which all then go to a fifth planet with only t2 processors. However, I can't import everything at once (without recreating launchpads for 900K each) because of the 8 hour cooldown. What's the point of it?
Also on the side, is there a go-around for it? |

The CD depends on how much you overtax the links, so to get shorter cooldown, make the links between pad and silos bigger. Also if you have space in the silos for multiple different materials you can spread the stuff in a loop. From pad to first silo, then from first to second silo and so on, each time leaving the stuff for that silo behind. Cooldown comes only to the silo which is sending the stuff. But with only one pad it will be bit slow, thats why you usually have more pads in factory planet, to share the load, they hold almost as much as silo anyway. |

Don't be shy about building more launchpads. On a factory planet you never need to move them, so the 900K isk is a one time cost, and is pretty trivial compared to profits from a decent PI setup. If you are short of cpu, you can substitute storage buildings for up to half your launchpads. Then you import half your raw materials to your launchpads, and execute one expedited transfer per launchpad to move the raw material in it to a storage building. Then import the other half of the raw materials to the launchpads. Keep in mind that the higher you go up the PI chain, the less space products take up; you only really need to find space for your lowest level raw materials. More advanced products can be routed back to the same buildings the raw materials come out of. End products should always be routed to launchpads so they can be shipped offworld without using an expedited transfer. If you have colonies running on cycles so short that you are importing stuff more frequently than every 8 hours, you'll have to adjust things or just use launchpads. Personally I run colonies on cycles of 4 days or longer, fiddling with PI several times a day soaks up more time than I can spend on Eve. |

Upgrade your links. I run somefactory planets with a single launchpad and multiple silos. Everything sits in the silos and I just transfer to/from the launchpad for import/export. I think my cooldown time is about 5 minutes for moving ~10,000 m3 of material, which is only a little more than the time it takes me to make the round trip to/from station with materials.

Also on the side, is there a go-around for it? Sounds like you are already doing things wrong, hence the cooldown. It is a subtle hint if you find yourself constantly building, destroying, and re-building launchpads.
Every planet I have has at least one permanent launchpad. It is the center of all production / extraction I do, being the source or destination for every route. It has adequate storage.

I just use launchpads for storage. One for input, one for primary output, and one for final output. **** |

Your input material will take up more space than intermediate or end products, as the raw materials get used up, use the space to store higher order products. |
