This seems to be big new currently, is he finally dead? Or r those fake pictures they put everywhere?
Apperently he ended up being shot in some convoy trying to escape. Then robbed of his wealth by his own soldiers. |

So much for putting him on trial, he probably deserved to die but still it doesn't bode well for a new government to replace the old regime via a lynching. The NTC could still have executed him after the trial, it makes them look more like a disorganised rabble than a government. |

So a farse of a trial is really that much better? Seems more pragmatic to just get it done in situations of asshat dictators. If the end result is still -1 dictator... Who cares? |

Theoretically, you would want to replace the dictator with a regime that actually cares about justice, and the rule of law. |

The point is the NTC are trying to establish themselves as a credible and legitimate government, but lynching the head of the previous regime defeats that. Governments are supposed to be about order and the rule of law, especially democracies but instead the NTC have started off with a mob in the street carrying out a lynching. Gaddafi's execution like this was an autocratic act, not to many steps away from the way he ran the country according to his whims.
As for who cares apparently they claimed that they did, the Libyan NTC didn't want to stoop to Gaddafi's tactic and wanted to put him on trial.
There are other reasons for an investigation and trial to, if they ever want to get to the bottom of which members of the Qaddafi regime where involved in which atrocitys so the right people get punished for the right things. If they don't do that and just summarily execute every suspect its back to a disorganised autocratic rabble, not a government. |

That's true, sadly. Thing is that just as with Bin Laden as long as he's alive he'll have power and control, and tons of followers. So while I'm certainly not a fan of the "police state without rules and courts" I'll reluctantly agree to the "best if he were to die" idea. Also, the fcker deserved it. Excellence is not a skill, it's an attitude. |

It also helped that he had a bad past with western nations. At one time sought nuclear weapons, and was in ear shot of Europe, and consequently said European airfields.
